In this high visibility position, the Trade compliance leader plays an important role by ensuring the company operates efficiently, maintains customer trust, and achieves its global business objectives while protecting the company from regulatory risks, financial penalties, and reputational damage by ensuring compliance with international trade laws. The ideal candidate will be local to the Knoxville, TN area.

Job

Purpose

The Trade Compliance Leader is responsible for ensuring the global supply chain and operations team adhere to all applicable international trade laws, regulations, and company policies. This role leads the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of trade compliance programs, working cross-functionally with sourcing, logistics, legal, and business units to mitigate risk and enable efficient, compliant global trade.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance Oversight:

  • Monitor, interpret, and implement global trade regulations, import/export controls, sanctions, and customs requirements relevant to electronics manufacturing.
  • Ensure accurate product classification, country of origin determination, and valuation to support customs clearance and compliance with trade agreements.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of U.S. and international trade laws, including ITAR, EAR, and other export control frameworks.

Program Development & Implementation:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain robust trade compliance policies, procedures, and training programs for employees and partners.
  • Lead risk assessments and internal audits to identify compliance gaps and implement corrective actions.
  • Manage and update trade compliance management systems, including documentation and reporting tools.
  • Serve as the primary trade compliance liaison for executive leadership and business units, providing expert guidance on trade-related risks and opportunities.
  • Partner with sourcing, logistics, legal, and business teams to embed compliance into business processes and strategic sourcing decisions.
  • Lead and mentor a team of trade compliance professionals, fostering a culture of compliance and continuous improvement.

Operational Excellence:

  • Oversee customs broker relationships and manage customs clearance processes to ensure timely, compliant shipments.
  • Analyze trade data, monitor KPIs, and implement process improvements to reduce risk and costs.
  • Identify and maximize opportunities for duty reduction and special trade program utilization.

Training & Communication:

  • Provide ongoing compliance training and awareness programs for employees and business partners.
  • Communicate regulatory changes and compliance requirements to key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Collaborate with various departments, including supply chain, logistics, legal, and procurement, to ensure consistent application of trade compliance policies.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, supply chain, law, or related field. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CUSECO, CUSECO, LCB) is preferred.
  • At least 8 years of experience in trade compliance, import/export, or supply chain management, preferably in the electronics or high‑tech manufacturing sector.
