Position Summary
The child watch attendant is responsible for supervising and interacting with children aged 6 weeks to 6 years old while under the care of the Child Watch Department. The role also upholds the Judeo‑Christian principles central to our mission by modeling behaviors that exemplify the YMCA core values: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Core Functions- Supervise and interact with children in the Child Watch area in a safe and professional manner.
- Ensure all children are registered and signed in/out by parent and/or guardian.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and serviceable Child Watch environment; notify the supervisor of any deficiencies.
- Follow appropriate records for enrollment, attendance, and special handling instructions.
- Take all reasonable measures to ensure the safety and well‑being of the children.
- Follow all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures; complete incident and accident reports as necessary.
- Other duties may be assigned.
There are no supervisory responsibilities.
Requirements- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education and ExperienceNo specific education is required. The candidate must have one to three months of experience working with children in the appropriate age group.
Reasoning AbilityAbility to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or scheduled form.
Work EnvironmentWork is regularly exposed to outdoor weather. The noise level is usually moderate.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and to multiply and divide with tens and hundreds. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight, volume, and distance.
Physical DemandsFrequently required to talk or hear. Occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands and fingers. May occasionally be required to lift 50 pounds. Vision abilities required include close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
Certificates, Licenses, CoursesNew Employee Orientation is required before starting; additional training, licenses, and courses may be required throughout employment.
