WVLT is located in beautiful Knoxville, Tennessee. We produce 58 hours of local news per week on our CBS and CW stations. At the doorstep of the Smoky Mountains and on the banks of the Tennessee River, Knoxville is the 61st largest television market in the country. The city is home to the University of Tennessee’s flagship campus, a walkable downtown, a sophisticated mix of culture and cuisine, a diverse and robust employment sector, advanced medical care, and amenities found in big cities, yet maintains a small-town feel.
Job SummaryWVLT is accepting applications for a full‑time Meteorologist to join our award‑winning team. The ideal candidate will have meteorology experience preparing and delivering weather forecasts and information as part of the overall WVLT News team. Responsibilities include writing, editing, and shooting engaging, informative, and compelling news and weather content; developing and executing community interest stories on a regular basis; consistently contributing to weather and newscast content on the station’s social media and digital platforms;
maintaining an unwavering commitment to accuracy, fairness, and ethics; meeting daily production deadlines; and other duties as assigned.
- Analyze weather data and prepare detailed forecasts
- Prepare graphics to support the weather presentation
- Maintain a flexible schedule for severe weather and winter weather scenarios
- Work closely with news management in designing presentation style and editorial content for on‑air weather presentations
- Develop and report stories
- Prepare material for delivery of newscasts
- Post content to the website and social media platforms
- Bachelor’s degree in meteorology
- Prior experience as a broadcast meteorologist
- Strong on‑air communication skills
- Ability to work as part of an on‑air team and weather team
- Creative graphic design and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to accurately forecast weather
- Proficiency in social media platforms
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
