The University of Tennessee Health Science Center-College of Medicine, Knoxville is seeking a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Professor. This position will develop and lead an independent research program at the intersection of systems and data science in the Department of Anesthesiology.

The University of Tennessee Health Science Center-College of Medicine, Knoxville is seeking a full-time non-tenure track Assistant Professor. This position will develop and lead an independent research program at the intersection of systems and data science in the Department of Anesthesiology.
Responsibilities
Research Leadership:
- Utilizes high-performance computing resources to drive innovative research projects.
- Foster interdisciplinary collaborations, particularly with clinical practitioners and externally with established systems biology experts.
- Mentor students, postdoctoral researchers, and clinicians by providing guidance and support on research design, data analysis, and scientific writing.
- Works closely with clinicians to translate research findings into clinical studies.
- Prepare high-quality grant proposals to secure external funding to support research initiatives.
- Participate in departmental, college, and university service activities.
- Engage with external research communities and contribute to professional organizations in systems biology and data science.
EDUCATION: MD or PhD with expertise in Systems Biology or Data Science.
EXPERIENCE: Proven record of high-quality research publications and successful grant writing.
Experience with large language models (LLMs) and supercomputer programming. Ability to develop and implement complex computational models and data analysis pipelines. Strong record of mentoring students and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams, including clinicians and senior researchers.
LICENSES: TN Medical License if MD.

The University of Tennessee College of Medicine – Knoxville (UTCOM-K) was initially established in 1956 as the UT Memorial Research Center and Hospital, which also provided the graduate medical and dental educational (GMDE) and research programs in Knoxville. The GMDE programs collectively became the UT Graduate School of Medicine with the formation of the University of Tennessee Medical Center (UTMC) in 1991, and more recently were renamed the UTCOM-K with the increased emphasis on undergraduate medical education in Knoxville as well as the statewide presence of UTHSC.
The mission of the Knoxville Campus is to advance medical education required to train the next generation of physicians and dentists, deliver comprehensive and compassionate care with our hospital partner, the University of Tennessee Medical Center, and conduct innovative research that is meaningful for patients and their families. Our college provides training for third- and fourth-year Medical Students, second year Physician Assistant Students, as well as Graduate Medical Education for 11 primary residency programs and 17 subspecialty fellowships.
UTCOM-K consists of 548 faculty (258 paid), 245 residents and fellows and hosts an average of 40-50 medical students per month. UTCOMK also provides Continuing Medical Education services for faculty, residents and practicing physicians in our region, as well as Advanced Medical Simulation for students, residents, and faculty.
