Overview

Our Mission: Knoxville Leadership Foundation (KLF) serves the Knoxville area by connecting communities of resource with communities of need, while reconciling people to Jesus Christ and to each other.

Purpose of Position: The Knox Worx Trainer is a full-time position dedicated to empowering program participants by developing skills and credentials through Knox Worx’s training initiatives. Knox Worx focuses on serving individuals who have dropped out of high school and/or are justice-involved. This position is primarily focused on hands-on construction-related training in work-like environments.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities & Organization

General

  • Teach, coach, and mentor program participants.
  • Develop curriculum and ensure effective organizational practices.
  • Utilize strong administrative skills and maintain relational networks.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft programs (Excel, Word, database management).
Essential Functions
  • Deliver high-quality instruction and supervision to program participants in various training settings, covering job readiness, soft skills, industry-specific training, On-The-Job Training, and High School Equivalency (HiSet) education.
  • Conduct training across multiple Knox Worx locations, including the Knox Worx Training Center, classrooms, worksites, Knox County Detention Center (pre-release), and the Day Reporting Center.
  • Primarily focused on supporting construction training staff in leading hands-on training activities in work-like environments
  • Setting and maintaining worksite expectations
  • Supporting the integration of construction learning with broader job-readiness training
  • Use a trauma-informed approach to teaching, recognizing how trauma affects learning and behavior, and adapting methods to support participants effectively.
  • Set and uphold behavioral expectations in classrooms and worksites, addressing issues as needed.
  • Provide daily mentoring and life coaching to program participants.
  • Monitor and document participant progress, assessing skill development throughout the program.
  • Teach in small classes, typically ranging from 8 to 16 participants.
  • Coordinate with KLF case managers and local service providers to connect participants with additional resources.
  • Work closely with case managers to share insights on students’ strengths and areas for improvement, including participation in disciplinary and de-escalation meetings.
  • Collaborate as part of a team to integrate education, credential training, leadership development, and life skills into the program.
  • Use diverse materials, teaching techniques, and technology to enhance workplace skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
  • Attend all required staff meetings, retreats, and other assigned activities.
  • Assist the KLF team with participant re-engagement and follow-up efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Requirements
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent teaching experience of young adults and adults with barriers to employment

This position transports program participants. A driving record will be reviewed by our insurance company. Any violations need to be discussed during the interview process

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Prolonged periods standing outside on active worksites.

Bending and twisting.

Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
