Geotechnical Engineer (Nashville)

Full‑time.
Base Pay Range: $75,000 - $95,000 per year. (Salary based on experience; discuss with recruiter.)
Responsibilities- Provide geotechnical engineering and guidance for due diligence, investigation, impact assessment, improvement, and construction of infrastructure projects and systems in the public and private sector. Tasks may include assisting with the research, design, analysis, concept development, planning, and construction of roads, buildings, tunnels, dams, canals, levees, bridges, airports, water supply systems, underground storage, and sewage treatment.
- Perform basic professional geotechnical engineering work relating to conducting research and inspections of proposed and existing site conditions, including subsurface investigations, soil foundation engineering, settlement analysis, soil erosion, lateral earth pressures, geological hazards, underground water, and slope stability for commercial, industrial, building, infrastructure, and transportation projects.
- Perform and/or lead field investigations, engineering analysis, calculations, and recommendations; design and development of plans and specifications; observation and inspection; and the writing, preparation, and review of related reports.
- Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on design and construction issues involving rock and soil mechanics and subsurface geological conditions.
- Write technical reports summarizing research findings and conclusions, generating complete, accurate, and concise documentation using sketches, calculations, electronic systems, spreadsheets, and software.
- Develop work plans and coordinate field/site work and laboratory testing.
- Provide support services during construction, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, and contract document clarifications.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Geotechnical, or Structural Engineering.
- Professional Engineer (PE) or Engineering in Training (EIT) preferred.
- 5+ years of geotechnical engineering experience.
- Ability to prepare complete, concise, organized engineering calculations and reports.
- Proficiency in geotechnical software such as gINT, Slope/W, Seep/W, APILE, LPILE, GRLWeap, Settle3D (or comparable software).
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites; physical ability to freely access construction sites under a variety of climate and environmental conditions.
- Valid driver’s license and insurability.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Physically mobile in and around construction sites and field assignments.
- Ability to carry required instruments and equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and quantitative productivity standards.
