Transportation Engineer

Job Description

Join CDM Smith in either our Nashville or Knoxville offices and make a difference while working with a fantastic team supporting state and municipal highway design projects and project delivery throughout Tennessee and the Southeast region.

• Perform interchange/highway design, roadway widening, roundabout/superstreet design, and low‑impact bridge replacement; produce construction bid plans and documents, write roadway design reports, prepare construction cost estimates and design specifications, and coordinate with clients.
• Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and review their work.

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, Structural Engineering, or related discipline.
• Professional Engineering (PE) license.
• Seven years of related experience (or equivalent directly related experience considered).
• Domestic and/or international travel may be required (up to 5%).

• Familiarity with TDOT roadway design; municipal roadway design is a plus.
• Strong preference for candidates with Open Roads experience.
• Experience with Microstation and corridor modeling.
• Experience developing construction bid documents for TDOT and/or municipalities.
• Technical writing experience, including project special provisions, design reports, functional design reports, and technical memorandums.
