JOB DESCRIPTION
The Manufacturing Technology group consists of a staff of professionals which provide technical, business, customer, and financial support to Arconics Rolled Products and Extrusions business units. The staff consists of specialists in various technologies and engineering disciplines with expertise ranging from melting metal through final fabrication.
The Furnace & Casting Equipment Engineer has responsibilities that include reviewing new capital equipment designs and installations, maintaining a core competency in casthouse equipment, refractory, and technology, solving problems with global systemic and plant specific focus, driving process efficiencies through lowering costs and improving quality, training operators and other engineers. This position reports to the Molten Metal Technology Manager.
The position requires the individual to be able to work well with a broad group of cultures. The position requires the desire and ability to travel extensively (around 50%) with a portion of the travel being international. The location of the individual is preferred to be in Knoxville, but other Arconic locations will be considered due to the large percentage of travel.
PrimaryResponsibilities
- Optimization of process equipment for improving quality and capacity
- Solve equipment and process problems for Arconic Casthouse Processes
- Drive resolution of chronic problems within area of expertise;
Lead problem solving teams & organize support from other resources when necessary - Develop and deploy Standard Practices for the casthouse processes, assist in identifying improvement opportunities, and facilitate technology transfer
- Maintain a working relationship with vendors of casting and furnace equipment and be knowledgeable of external developments
- Provide engineering and operational support for large capital improvement projects
- Sponsor, participate, and occasionally lead development projects
- Be relied upon by plant resources for advice and direction on capital and process solutions
- Participate in technical assessments of facilities and individual pieces of equipment
- Lead the corporate Refractory Task Force team
- Support major customer
- All Arconic locations with casthouse
- Bachelors degree in mechanical engineering
- Five (5) years of experience utilizing mechanical engineering principles in a manufacturing environment
- Experience in equipment and processing in the area of Aluminum casting equipment and furnaces, including refractory
- Ability to travel to worldwide Arconic facilities
- U.S. Only – This position may require access to export-controlled technology, as defined in the Export Administration Regulations (15 C.F.R. §730, et seq.) and/or the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Qualified candidate must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3) or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the relevant government agency.
Business demands may require employer to proceed with candidates who are immediately eligible to access controlled technology.
