Licensed Counselor
Join Behavioral Health Group – BHG to apply for the Licensed Counselor role. The Counselor will assist patients in identifying, maximizing, and applying their strengths to achieve appropriate social, educational, and occupational goals while supporting a drug‑free life and providing emotional and physical assistance with problematic issues.
Responsibilities- Conduct alcohol and drug abuse counseling sessions as required by state regulation or individual treatment plans.
- Provide mental health counseling based on program needs and clinician qualifications.
- Offer services according to required hours, which may vary depending on services.
- Conduct group counseling sessions as needed.
- Orient patients to program operations and procedures.
- Collect social, educational, economic, and vocational information for assessment.
- Implement or revise treatment plans with patients, documenting progress per BHG policy.
- Develop a formal treatment plan within (10) days of entry or per state guidelines.
- Maintain complete, comprehensive, and well‑organized patient records.
- Submit records for periodic review as requested by the supervisory team.
- Document all patient contacts, ensuring teammates’ documentation when applicable.
- Make referrals through case‑management services and follow up as necessary.
- Assist the Program Director in implementing new programs into patient treatment.
- Advise the Program Director of caseload and schedule problems.
- Attend weekly treatment team meetings prepared to lead discussion and discuss individual patient caseload.
- Provide in‑service training to counselors and other team members as needed.
- Maintain a basic understanding of alcohol/drug abuse and addiction, staying current on trends such as Opioid Maintenance Treatment.
- Provide intake/readmission services, including supportive counseling for new patients until assigned to a primary counselor.
- Monitor and document follow‑up calls or contact with all discharging patients for at least 30 days.
- Offer crisis intervention or support services to patients assigned to other counselors when their primary counselor is unavailable.
- Produce inter‑agency reports and documentation required for third‑party reimbursement, criminal justice, supplemental income assessments, emergency services, or other specialized needs.
- Coordinate care with community providers as needed.
- Meet BHG attendance standards and be present and ready for work at the beginning of the established schedule.
- Perform OBOT services as required.
- Report any work‑related injury, illness, or workplace hazards immediately to the supervisor.
- Perform other duties assigned by the supervisory team.
- Compliance with federal and state regulations regarding certification, licensure, and degree.
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Master’s degree in a related field may be required for expanded job duties.
- LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor).
- LADAC I (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor I).
- LADAC II (Licensed Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselor II).
- LCSW (Licensed Clinical Social Worker).
- LMSW (Licensed Master Social Worker).
If not adequately licensed, the counselor must be enrolled in, or willing to begin, a formal course of study toward licensure at the date of hire.

- Knowledge of the substance‑abuse population, treatment planning, and human social services to support patient rehabilitation.
- Effective speaking and hearing ability.
- Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, and forms.
