PositionSummary
The Registered Nurse (RN) – Circulator is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care in the operating room, ensuring a safe, efficient, and sterile surgical environment. This role serves as the patient's advocate throughout the perioperative process, monitoring safety, documentation, and communication between surgical team members to ensure optimal outcomes.
Key Responsibilities- Assist in the daily function and organization of the operating room in accordance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide direct and indirect patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures.
- Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications safely, and respond to any intraoperative or postoperative complications.
- Oversee patient positioning, site preparation, and adherence to procedural safety protocols.
- Ensure that patients' rights, dignity, privacy, and comfort are always maintained.
- Perform accounting procedures to prevent retained surgical items and ensure all instruments and supplies are accounted for.
- Confirm correct surgical site, side, and level in collaboration with the surgical team.
- Manage patient specimens according to facility guidelines.
- Implement infection control measures to prevent surgical site infections.
- Communicate patient status updates to appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care.
- Assist in overseeing patient care activities and ensuring the OR team operates efficiently.
- Foster a collaborative work environment by using problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
- Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes.
- Act as a patient advocate, ensuring ethical, culturally competent, and age‑appropriate care.
- Accurately document all aspects of nursing care, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative observations.
- Maintain all required competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
- Participate in the performance appraisal process and ongoing professional development.
- Complete all required compliance training, ensuring adherence to legal and regulatory standards.
