The Registered Nurse (RN) – Circulator is responsible for coordinating and managing patient care in the operating room, ensuring a safe, efficient, and sterile surgical environment. This role serves as the patient's advocate throughout the perioperative process, monitoring safety, documentation, and communication between surgical team members to ensure optimal outcomes.

• Assist in the daily function and organization of the operating room in accordance with facility policies and regulatory guidelines.
• Provide direct and indirect patient care before, during, and after ophthalmic procedures.
• Monitor patient vital signs, administer medications safely, and respond to any intraoperative or postoperative complications.
• Oversee patient positioning, site preparation, and adherence to procedural safety protocols.
• Ensure that patients' rights, dignity, privacy, and comfort are always maintained.
• Perform accounting procedures to prevent retained surgical items and ensure all instruments and supplies are accounted for.
• Confirm correct surgical site, side, and level in collaboration with the surgical team.
• Manage patient specimens according to facility guidelines.
• Implement infection control measures to prevent surgical site infections.
• Communicate patient status updates to appropriate parties throughout the continuum of care.
• Assist in overseeing patient care activities and ensuring the OR team operates efficiently.
• Foster a collaborative work environment by using problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
• Participate in quality review and performance improvement projects to enhance patient outcomes.
• Act as a patient advocate, ensuring ethical, culturally competent, and age‑appropriate care.
• Accurately document all aspects of nursing care, including preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative observations.
• Maintain all required competencies, certifications, and continuing education.
