Electrician/ Electrician Installation, Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Senior Electrician role within the Facilities Services Department. The department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of campus facilities, including buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The Senior Electrician installs and maintains electrical systems and equipment for the campus, performs regular inspections to ensure safety, works on special events, and may fill in for the Foreman. The position includes training other personnel on electrical processes and equipment and provides good customer service to internal and external customers.
Responsibilities- Install, diagnose and repair electrical systems and related electrical components.
- Make skillful decisions based on knowledge and experience.
- Perform diagnostics to maintain or repair all electrical components and ensure reliable operation of campus electrical safety systems.
- Be available for overtime and emergency response to support campus electrical systems and prevent interruptions of service.
- Train fellow staff on systems and wiring layouts.
- Interact with students, faculty, staff, and the general public in a courteous, professional, and inclusive manner.
- Study blueprints, take off materials, and order materials for projects and work orders.
- Plan work, assist and fill in for foreman, and instruct junior personnel in the use of tools and materials.
- Report job information to supervision including repairs, issues, deficiencies, and needed parts to correct problems on lighting and all electrical systems.
- Report unsafe practices or conditions in a timely manner.
- Study technical manuals and equipment information to improve knowledge of campus electrical systems and equipment.
- Take online classes and from vendors to stay up to date on maintenance and control strategies and technology.
- Be available to take classes not on campus and complete training to maintain and update skills.
- Assist contractors and other shops, and instruct and assist Facilities Services personnel in proper procedures and daily work of electrical systems.
- Required Qualifications
- Education:
Vocational or technical training in Industrial Electrical Systems Maintenance - Experience:
5 years as an electrician; experience leading and training others; experience with craft tools, techniques, and equipment; experience working with other crafts; education may be substituted for experience on a year-to-year basis. - Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Working knowledge of electrical parts, wiring diagrams, and system loads.
- Ability to read blueprints.
- Ability to work on live electrical and electronic systems when necessary.
- Ability to climb ladders, work in confined spaces, adverse conditions, and high places.
- Ability to perform hard physical work for long periods and to lift, pull, and push heavy loads.
- Good hand–eye coordination and mechanical aptitude. Knowledge of electrical and safety codes. Ability to train others on related systems.
