Maintenance Specialist, 2nd Shift, College of Veterinary Medicine: UTIA

The College of Veterinary Medicine invites applicants to apply for the position of Maintenance Specialist. The Maintenance Specialist exists to perform a variety of preventive maintenance activities for buildings, equipment, and related systems to include carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and HVAC. The Veterinary Medical Center is operational 24 hours a day, 7 days per week, and 365 days per year; occasional weekend or holiday work may be required.

Responsibilities
  • Follow building blueprints, plans, drawings, and equipment wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Order, design, and assemble modular furniture.
  • Construct office work areas, including hanging of doors, sheetrock, acoustical ceilings, etc.
  • Install laboratory equipment and maintain building structures.
  • Provide layout and build new walls using steel framing and drywall boards.
  • Repair lab animal isolation cubicles and cage washers.
  • Repair door locks.
  • Design and build portable radiograph machine transporter for radiology.
  • Design and build bottled medication holder for large animal surgery.
  • Design, build, and install intravenous drip supports for large animal clinic.
  • Set up for special events.
  • Keep work site clean and safe; conduct overall walk‑through for awareness and quick action on miscellaneous discrepancies.
  • Install electrical circuits and check motors, controls, and lighting.
  • Monitor mechanical and electrical equipment throughout college facilities including air handlers, air conditioning and refrigeration systems, walk‑in freezers, coolers, low temperature cryogenic freezers, air compressors, vacuum pumps, condensate pumps, medical gases, deionized water stations, oxygen tanks, propane gases, hot water systems, heating converters for building heat and team station, etc.
  • Maintain and replace light bulbs, drive belts, water and gas pressure regulators, nitrogen tanks, light fixtures and suspended ceiling systems.
  • Install and maintain deionized water purification systems.
  • Design and install electrical and plumbing systems for specialized lab equipment.
  • Monitor and repair isolated power supply panels for small and large animal surgery rooms.
  • Repair refrigerators, freezers, water coolers, laundry equipment, kitchen cooking equipment and ice machines.
  • Design and install new wiring systems including service panels, circuit breakers, switches, receptacles, transformers and conduits and wiring up to 480 V, 3‑phase.
  • Repair variable air volume mixing boxes, exhaust fans and air handler fans.
  • Rebuild and maintain 14‑foot diameter enthalpy recovery wheel.
  • Troubleshoot, reset, reprogram and repair computerized water chillers and air conditioning systems using a laptop computer.
  • Troubleshoot and repair steam regulators and related equipment and systems.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and calibrate pneumatic controls for air conditioning systems and calibrate pneumatic thermostats for room temperature control.
  • Troubleshoot and repair 480 V, 3‑phase reduced voltage motor starters; install and repair 480 V, 3‑phase rooftop heat pump.
  • Maintain plumbing within building; repair or replace worn or broken parts, unclog drains, repair faulty connections, repair electrical fuses, plumbing pipes and vents, check water pressure regulator valves for pressure drop and clean when necessary.
  • Check cooling tower water make‑up valves and adjust when necessary; maintain pipes for various hospital gases to include nitrogen, oxygen, medical air, vacuum, anesthesia, exhaust.
  • Oversee receiving, storage, distribution and inventory of maintenance supplies and equipment; make recommendations for modification and improvement of equipment in the facility and oversee implementation of such changes and renovations.
  • Accept, inspect for damages, and distribute all inbound freight to all departments in the hospital – about 100 or more cartons daily; ship out all returning shipments making sure the correct return authorization is attached to each carton and all paperwork is attached.
  • Collect all in‑house mail, sort and re‑deliver all internal mail to CVM departments.
