The purpose of this job is to troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical and electrical issues, perform preventative maintenance and provide breakdown support and service equipment at an advanced level.
Key Accountabilities- Demonstrated expertise in diesel and electrical diagnostics with a solid understanding of repair techniques.
- Excellent problem solving, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Advanced knowledge of parts, tools and all components of diesel-powered equipment and knowledge of how each part interacts with other parts.
- Ability to use hose machine to make hoses, proper identification of hose sizes, and able to change hose and train others on the hose process.
- Understanding the usage of fluids that are used on-site (Hyd, Eng oil, Diesel fuel, etc.)
- Proper knowledge of installation of common wear items (e.g. v-belts, wipers, light bulbs, etc.)
- Ability to work swing shifts and/or weekends/holidays.
- Ability to perform proper pre-shift examinations on equipment.
- Ability to change tires, proper understanding of hand tools/pneumatic tools.
- Delivery of results in a timely manner and safety
- Follow all MSHA and Site safety rules
- Achieve processing targets by maintaining effective short and long–term maintenance of mobile equipment
- Assisting in monitoring for effective preventative and breakdown mechanical maintenance procedures
- Liaising with Team Leader and Maintenance Planner regarding parts and consumables requirements and plans
- Continually reviewing the most appropriate mobile maintenance methods, equipment and plans
- Keeping up to date with new developments in techniques and computing for maintenance of mobile equipment
- Assisting in development of new techniques and procedures that will streamline mobile maintenance processes
- Actively participate in the Asset Management department team to support and promote agreed decisions of the department
- Support effective discipline, communication and relationships within the team and between teams
- Consistently apply Workplace Management Procedures to ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and visions and values
- Excellent technical knowledge and skills, including a broad understanding of mobile maintenance concepts
- Able to train other Diesel Technicians
- Competent in directing peers on maintaining safety and health regulations
- Perform major component rebuilds as required
- Perform calibrations and alignments as required per manufacturer’s documentation
- Able to operate all diesel equipment, simulating normal mining activity, for fault evaluation
- Able to generate repair notes and documentation on all jobs for fault tracking
- Perform 1000 hour service PM on all diesel equipment
- Ability to read and train on hydraulic, electrical, and systems troubleshooting
- Basic knowledge and awareness of High Voltage safety
- Strong organizational and conceptual planning and operational skills with ability to communicate vision to others
- Well developed communication and interpersonal skills and a “team-oriented” approach to the achievement of tasks
- Demonstrated high regard for safe-working rules and procedures, with evidence of careful consideration of risk-factors in undertaking any initiative
- Proven orientation to results with ability to maintain focus on key areas
- Honesty, integrity and an open approach to interpersonal relations at work
- Appropriate trade or related qualification in maintenance of mechanical, hydraulic and electrical equipment or a related discipline
- 2 years experience in maintenance, within a mining, construction, or OEM environment, and or diploma from accredited Trade School
- Able to troubleshoot and repair engine, drive train, hydraulic and electrical faults
- Able to use electrical diagnostic equipment for downloads and trouble shooting
- Proficient in heating tip and cutting using oxy/acetylene torches
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Mines Regulations
