About Bridge Refugee Services:

Bridge Refugee Services, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non‑profit organization operating in Knoxville that is committed to providing opportunities for low‑income refugees to rebuild their lives, so that they become productive and contributing members of the community.

Position Summary:
  • Assist refugees needing medical case management, education, and supportive services to become self‑sufficient. This may include working with individuals with chronic health problems, disabilities, mental health issues, and the elderly.
  • Create plans with clients to overcome barriers and work towards navigating the health system and aging services independently.
  • This position will require strong problem‑solving skills, experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds, and a commitment to keeping thorough documentation.
  • Meet with clients to create self‑sufficiency plans to overcome their barriers
  • Assist clients to access relevant community resources such as childcare, counseling, specialized medical assistance, support groups for individuals with health conditions, disabilities, or the elderly
  • Connect clients and their families with educational and support programming and materials that support their ability to make informed health decisions and integrate into the community
  • Connect clients to nutrition assistance programs and ensure home‑bound individuals have sustainable access to food
  • Contact clients on a regular basis to track their progress and current needs
  • Advocate for clients with medical service providers and insurance providers, and provide medical coaching to check client understanding and troubleshoot challenges
  • Coordinate closely with other Bridge staff members serving the client and the volunteer manager
  • Request volunteer assistance as needed
  • Maintain proper documentation of services provided to clients, especially case notes, and produce needed reports on time
The member(s) in this position will have the opportunity to gain the following skills/credentials:
  • Case Management
  • Developing and implementing individualized self‑sufficiency plans.
  • Tracking client progress and updating goals based on evolving needs.
  • Health System Navigation
  • Assisting refugees with accessing medical care, insurance, and support services.
  • Coaching clients to understand health information and appointments.
  • Client Advocacy
  • Acting as an advocate in medical settings and with insurance providers.
  • Identifying and addressing barriers to care (e.g., transportation, language, knowledge).
  • Community Resource Coordination
  • Connecting clients with local resources: food assistance, counseling, elder care, and education programs.
  • Understanding local service networks and eligibility requirements.
  • Documentation & Reporting
  • Writing case notes and maintaining accurate, timely records.
Site Preferences/

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Fluency in the English language
  • Experience in a social services or human services environment strongly preferred
  • Preference for candidates who have case management experience and/or experience working with culturally diverse populations
  • Passion for serving and empowering refugees
  • Strong communication and problem‑solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite preferred
  • Ability to work well with a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to work occasional evenings and weekends
