The Freight Optimization Planner is responsible for managing and directing available capacity throughout the company to ensure efficient coverage for any system freight, and applicable cross regional backhauls. This must be done within established policies and procedures of the company. Responsible for meeting established objectives in conjunction with meeting expectations of system drivers and customer requirements. Works closely with Central Customer Service, Driver Managers, Brokerage, Safety, and Maintenance.

Location: Knoxville, TN

Pay: $56,000 - $70,000 per year

Responsibilities
  • Point of contact for shipment/driver coverage communication with Service Center Managers and Operations Supervisors.
  • Plans drivers’ load assignments to maximize utilization of available resources and loaded miles.
  • Reviews drivers’ utilization with Ops Supervisors.
  • Communicates/coordinates breakdown load recovery with Ops Supervisors.
  • Communicates/updates late deliveries with CSR’s.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education/Experience/Licenses/Certifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred. High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Direct management of personnel is required.
  • Management of drivers in a bulk transportation operation is preferred.
Skills Required
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgement.
  • Able to direct and manage drivers and manage independent contractor relations.
  • Proficient in company software including Microsoft with emphasis on Outlook, Excel, and SharePoint.
  • Knowledge of Federal DOT, OSHA and EPA regulations.
  • Able to work with interruptions and deadlines.
  • Capable of effectively interacting with internal and external customers.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions
  • Majority of time will be spent in an office setting.
  • On call duty, flexibility in schedule and occasional after hours and weekend work are required.
