1:1 SEN Support Non-Verbal Autism Alternative Provision Full-Time September Start

Astro Education is working in partnership with a highly supportive primary school near Knutsford to recruit a compassionate and resilient SEN Teaching Assistant for a full-time position starting in September.

This rewarding role involves providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with non-verbal autism who will be transitioning from Year 4 into Year 5. The pupil is educated within an alternative provision setting separate from the mainstream classroom, where she receives tailored support to meet her individual needs.

The successful candidate will play a key role in helping the pupil engage with learning activities, develop communication skills, build independence, and navigate the school day successfully.

About the School

The school has an excellent reputation for inclusion and pupil support. Staff work collaboratively to ensure children with additional needs receive the highest standard of care and education. You will be joining an experienced and supportive team who are committed to helping every child achieve their potential.

About the Role

You will work closely with the SENCO and wider support team to provide tailored support for a pupil with complex needs within a specialist provision.

The role will involve:
  • Providing consistent 1:1 support throughout the school day
  • Supporting a pupil with non-verbal autism within an alternative provision setting
  • Encouraging communication, engagement, and social interaction
  • Supporting emotional regulation and implementing individual strategies
  • Assisting with personal care, including nappy changing when required
  • Managing and responding appropriately to behaviours that may challenge
  • Promoting independence, confidence, and positive learning experiences

While the pupil can occasionally display behaviours that challenge, the school has strong systems, experienced staff, and a supportive leadership team in place to ensure both the child and successful candidate are well supported.

What We're Looking For
  • Have experience supporting children with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Have experience working with non-verbal children or children with complex communication needs
  • Be calm, patient, resilient, and nurturing
  • Have experience working within SEN settings or supporting children with additional needs
  • Be comfortable supporting personal care requirements
  • Build positive relationships with pupils and colleagues
  • Be committed to making a meaningful difference in a child's educational journey
Benefits Include:
  • Competitive rates of pay
  • Friendly and supportive consultant team
  • Simple registration process from the comfort of your own home
  • Opportunities to secure long-term and permanent positions
  • Honest and transparent communication throughout
