Lead Engineer; Java

FDM is a global business and technology consultancy seeking a Tech Lead Engineer to work for our client within the professional services sector. This is initially a 12-month contract with the potential to extend and will be a hybrid role that will be based in Radbroke, Manchester or Glasgow.

Our client is seeking a talented Tech Lead Engineer who has at least 10 years of experience to join their team. This is a unique opportunity to lead and mature high-performing feature teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. You will be embedded within our client's engineering organisation, conducting a maturity assessment of existing feature teams, identifying improvement opportunities, and developing a comprehensive engineering playbook that outlines standards, principles, tooling, and ways of working.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coach cross-functional feature teams to deliver scalable, high-quality solutions
• Conduct engineering maturity assessments and provide actionable recommendations
• Develop and implement a playbook to standardise engineering practices and tooling
• Drive continuous improvement and embed best practices across teams
• Collaborate with stakeholders to align technical delivery with business goals
• Support the upskilling and coaching of engineering teams to enhance capability

About You

• Minimum of 10 years' experience as a Tech Lead Architect, Lead Engineer or Engineering Manager in a consultancy or enterprise environment
• Experience developing and implementing playbooks to standardise engineering practices and tooling
• Strong background in full-stack development with hands-on experience in Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, Microservices architecture, AWS, Angular and React
• Demonstrated ability to see and understand the big picture and translate it into actionable engineering strategies
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with a passion for mentoring and team development
• Experience working in or with financial services organisations is highly desirable
