Join Barclays as a Software Development Test Engineer within Core App and Web in Digital CIO, supporting a critically important function responsible for addressing application crashes, managing OS upgrades, and resolving PRBs, all essential to maintaining the stability of the Barclays App. You will work within the mobile banking domain, flexibly supporting both client-side and server-side teams based on workload, while collaborating with the wider team.
The role focuses on driving quality through test automation, scalable framework development, and end-to-end validation, contributing to multiple monthly releases. Strong expertise in Java and related tools is essential, alongside proven experience in automation testing and building robust testing frameworks to ensure high-quality, reliable delivery.
- Proficiency in Java or JavaScript with strong coding practices, solid OOP knowledge, and experience with design patterns (e.g., Page Object Model).
- Understanding of microservices architecture and system design.
- Experience with Selenium for UI automation and API testing (REST/Graph
QL) using tools such as Postman or Rest Assured. - Basic performance testing experience using tools like JMeter or Gatling.
- Good knowledge of Git, CI/CD tools (Jenkins, Git Hub Actions, etc.), and familiarity with Docker and cloud platforms (AWS/Azure).
- Strong test design and problem-solving skills, with a structured approach to testing across UI, functional, and performance areas.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Previous experience within the financial services industry.

Purpose of the roleTo design, develop, and execute testing strategies to validate functionality, performance, and user experience, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and resolve defects, and continuously improve testing processes and methodologies, to ensure software quality and reliability.
Accountabilities- Development and implementation of comprehensive test plans and strategies to validate software functionality and ensure compliance with established quality standards.
- Creation and execution automated test scripts, leveraging testing frameworks and tools to facilitate early detection of defects and quality issues.
- Collaboration with cross-functional teams to analyse requirements, participate in design discussions, and contribute to the development of acceptance criteria, ensuring a thorough understanding of the software being tested.
- Root cause analysis for identified defects, working closely with developers to provide detailed information and support defect resolution.
- Collaboration with peers, participate in code reviews, and promote a culture of code quality and knowledge sharing.
- Stay informed of industry technology trends and innovations, and actively contribute to the organization's technology communities to foster a culture of technical excellence and growth.
