Under direct, indirect, and general supervision provides oral hygiene health care services consistent with the highest recognized standards of clinical hygiene and the hygiene profession. This includes but not necessarily limited to periodontal case management and treatment of the diseased periodontium, application and utilization of oral health care medications, and provision of preventative oral health care services.

- Continually strives to improve patient experience and quality of care by focusing on optimal patient access, continuity, team based care, clinical information systems, patient self-management, and community engagement.
- Performs comprehensive coordinated preventative Hygiene Services.
- Participates as an integral member of a multi-disciplinary team in the provision of Medical and other Health Care by collaborating with those professionals to provide KANA beneficiaries complete and comprehensive care.
- Obtains, records, and updates patient medical and dental histories and alerts the treating dentist of any changes or complications that might alter patient treatment.
- Establishes personal improvement plans to enhance professional development in the art and science of hygiene practice.
- Maintain, to the manufacturer’s recommendations, ultrasonic instruments and rotary devices used in the practice of dental hygiene; performs all aspects of dental hygiene.
- Maintains treatment recall.
- Cooperates and works with treating dentist to ensure referral to specialists when patients exhibit a more advanced periodontal disease process.
- Assists Case Manager and Dental Care Coordinator to monitor and maintain established protocols for patient referrals within and outside the IHS system.
- Provides oversight to hygiene services rendered by ancillary staff and ensures staff compliance to Dental Office protocols, policies, and procedures as outlined in the KANA Dental Clinic Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Assists the Dental Director in all aspects of the operational requirements and maintenance of the KANA’S Dental Clinics as needed or requested.
- Performs correct document entry and chart maintenance as outlined in the KANA Dental Clinic Policy and Procedures Manual.
- Maintains documentation and reporting measures of prevention activities as directed.
- Participates in the quality assurance review process as outlined in the KANA Quality Control Program and the KANA Dental Clinic Policy and Procedures Manual;
Aides in monitoring, evaluation, and revision of quality improvement activities with respect to Dental Hygiene Services. - Responsible for adherence to defined and accepted treatment modality and procedural protocol involving chart audit and treatment plan evaluation.
- Promotes the importance of preventive Oral Health Care through the provision of patient education.
- Coordinates and participates in Community Outreach programs, serves on KANA committees and prepares reports and other documentation as directed, assigned, or required.
- Attends all OSHA, HIPAA, and other regulatory compliance training formations provided by KANA administrative staff.
- Assists dental staff with OSHA, HIPAA, and infection control measures within the Dental Department.
- Represents KANA in a positive and respectful manner assisting in the promotion and maintenance of good public relations among community groups and professional organizations;
