Education Administration, University Professor
Kodiak College, a community campus of the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant/Associate Professor of Early Childhood Education. Persons who have not completed the doctorate may be considered if they can provide evidence for a plan to complete their doctorate within three years of the hire date. This position plays a key role in supporting UAA’s dual-mission identity and strengthening teacher preparation pathways across Alaska;
particularly through the Teacher Apprenticeship Program and close partnerships with local school districts and statewide colleagues.
Rooted in community engagement, culturally responsive pedagogy, and high-impact practices, this program prepares early childhood educators for the state's unique and diverse communities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively across all UAA campuses to advance early childhood educator pathways, align coursework to support statewide teacher workforce needs, and actively participate in the continued development and implementation of the Registered Apprenticeship Program for Teachers.
The position carries a twofold workload, typically consisting of 80% instruction and 20% professional/service engagement. The successful candidate will teach ECED courses in multiple modalities – face‑to‑face on Kodiak Island, online synchronous/asynchronous, and will engage in relationship‑based advising, community outreach, and partnership development with the Kodiak Island Borough School District, Alutiingcut Child Care Center, USCG Base Kodiak Child Development Center, local early learning centers, and statewide Education faculty.
The ideal candidate will teach a broad range of Early Childhood Education courses; support and mentor students across certificate, AAS, and transfer pathways; and contribute to practicum supervision. This role includes active collaboration with the Teacher Apprenticeship Program, faculty across the UA system, and community and school district partners to ensure aligned curriculum, strong field placements, and workforce development. A demonstrated commitment to student success, inclusive and culturally responsive teaching, and collaboration in a small‑campus environment is essential.
