POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct or remote supervision of the Quality Assurance (QA) Manager or Clinical Manager, the Pharmacy Clinical Assistant assists with day-to-day activities in the pharmacy or clinical duties. This position will also be required to work with the pharmacist, clinical staff, and other CHC staff to assist in the provision of quality primary medical services.
SITE OF EMPLOYMENT:The site of employment may be the main KCHC medical clinic, the KCHC Administrative building or at any other location where KCHC provides services or staff performs work. Staff may work remotely with the permission of their supervisor and the Executive Director.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:Primary Functions:
- Provide customer service to patients dropping off or picking up prescription orders.
- Enter and process prescription orders into the computer and consult with pharmacist as needed.
- Retrieve, count, and set up orders to support the work of the pharmacist.
- Create a profile of the patient’s health and insurance information in the computer system and update patient profiles as needed.
- Answer and effectively respond to phone calls.
- Assist the pharmacist and other medical staff, under direct or remote supervision, in the practice of pharmacy in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations and Agency policy and protocols.
- Communicate with insurance carriers to obtain payment for prescription claims and trouble-shoot insurance coverage issues to ensure resolution.
- Receive inventory, stock shelves, rotate stock, and verify all associated documentation.
- Prepare pharmacy inventory, order medications, and other supplies as needed. Conduct end-of-month inventory, remove and dispose of any expired stock per Agency policy/protocol/procedures.
- Communicate with medical staff to obtain refill authorization and refer patients for appointments as necessary.
- Closely follow all policies and procedures pertaining to operating a 340B pharmacy.
- Operate cash drawer at point of sale.
- Help with record-keeping requirements of the pharmacy.
- Communicate and work closely with pharmacists to provide safe, efficient, and accurate care to all patients.
- Comply with CHC Standards of Conduct, Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance.
- Ensure the pharmacy facilities are upkept and that the pharmacy is clean, at appropriate temperature,and secure at all times.
- Performs other related duties, as assigned, that support the overall mission and vision of Kodiak Community Health Center.
- Assists KCHC medical providers with patient examinations and procedures, as directed, when serving as a float Medical Assistant.
- Accurately obtains and documents patient history, vital signs, and other relevant information on appropriate forms when functioning as a float Medical Assistant.
- Performs venipuncture, urinalysis, and other laboratory procedures for which competency has been demonstrated, as requested by KCHC medical staff, when serving as a float Medical Assistant.
- Consistently adheres to established standards, policies, and procedures in providing patient care.
- Restocks exam rooms and equipment weekly when functioning as a float Medical Assistant.
- Cleans exam rooms after each use when serving as a float Medical Assistant.
- Maintains sharps containers when functioning as a float Medical Assistant.
- Empties shred bins nightly when serving as a float Medical Assistant.
- Administers vaccines in accordance with current CDC guidelines and documents appropriately; administers injectable medications as directed by a KCHC provider and documents accordingly when functioning as a float Medical Assistant.
