This is the third level in a three-level Water Operations series. Incumbents supervise the operations of the leachate treatment plant and required equipment, ensuring compliance with applicable water quality regulations, operating and maintaining equipment, training staff, monitoring compliance, and performing other related activities.
This class specification represents only the core areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the needs of the department.
In a lead capacity, the operator monitors safe operational activities and maintains treatment plant(s). The responsibilities include:
- Training staff on proper operational and safety procedures; reviewing the work of staff; monitoring regulatory compliance.
- Overseeing the efficient and proper operation of the leachate treatment plant(s).
- Monitoring and operating technologically complex plant control systems.
- Monitoring the proper operation of pumps, blowers, chemical equipment, and controls; taking corrective action as necessary.
- Compiling information for reports for regulatory agencies by recording readings and test results.
- Maintaining and repairing treatment plant facilities and equipment; documenting and maintaining logbooks on service and maintenance activities.
- Conducting laboratory tests and maintaining thorough and accurate records of test results; preparing related reports.
- Operating a variety of equipment, including belt press, forklift, screens, chemical manufacturing and feed systems, pump stations, computer control systems, and other applicable equipment.
- Serving as a back‑up and assisting landfill staff as needed in performing Baler Operator activities.
- Performing other duties of a similar nature and level.
