The Miami Correctional Facility is a maximum‑security correctional facility for adult males. The Miami Correctional Facility is located in Bunker Hill.
Miami Correctional Facility is on the southeast corner of the Grissom Aeroplex, just south of Peru, Indiana, in Miami County. Miami Correctional Facility offers several opportunities for work and educational programs, including a program where incarcerated individuals translate reading materials to Braille and a sewing shop that provides items for partner organizations.
Employees at Miami Correctional Facility support the safe and secure operations of the facility 24 hours a day 7 days per week.
Depending on operational needs, assignments will include working with state incarcerated individuals and/or federal detainees.
The Release Assistant is responsible for maintaining incarcerated individuals commitments to the Department of Correction. You will receive new or amended commitments from the courts, work closely with the Sentence Computation and Release Section, monitor pending charges and detainers, and manage temporary court‑ordered releases. You will also serve as the facility liaison to the Indiana Parole Board, the court system, and all wanting authorities.
SalaryStatement
The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience.
Eligible non‑custody staff who complete required training and certification to perform federal detention duties will receive a $20 non‑discretionary bonus for each shift that they are assigned those duties.
A Day in the Life:The essential functions of this role are as follows:
- Oversee and ensure the accuracy of the upcoming offender release data for scheduled/special releases as ordered by the court.
- Coordinate the planning and successful completion of primary and secondary offender placements while adhering to all nuances as stipulated within state statute and IDOC administrative policy.
- Receive, distribute, and monitor offender progress reports as ordered by the court.
- Submit completed forms in compliance with agency established procedures.
- Appear at parole hearings as directed by the supervisor.
- Inform offenders of judicial, parole board, or IDOC official’s decisions impacting the offender release date.
- Complete and/or assist offenders in completion of applicable forms.

What You'll Need for Success:You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- High School Diploma or High School Equivalent (HSE).
- One (1) year of experience in corrections or related area.
- General knowledge of practices and procedures of work release, parole, probation, and clemency.
- Basic knowledge of IDOC mission, correctional environment, and Indiana Criminal Code.
- Ability to complete related training offered by Correctional Training Institute.
- Excellent communication skills required in interactions with Court officials and other governmental entities.
- Able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
