POSITION: Museum Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator (part time)
The Howard County Historical Society operates the Howard County Museum at the Seiberling Mansion in Kokomo, IN with hours open to the public Tuesday-Sunday 1-4pm. In addition, the historical society offers an annual schedule of events and programs throughout the year, archive and library resources, and rental of the Elliott House for special events.
General Description
:
The Museum Volunteer/Outreach Coordinator reports directly to the Executive Director of the Howard County Historical Society. The incumbent will familiarize themselves with the mission of the HCHS and will be an advocate for the organization in the fulfillment of the various responsibilities and specific duties outlined in the position description, which follows.
- Work with volunteers and manage museum host schedules.
- Ensure the timely opening and closing of the museum for the hosts and for public admission.
- Work with HCHS leadership to determine volunteer needs.
- Manage outreach opportunities.
- Schedule volunteer hosts, manage the opening and closing of the museum, and assist in the scheduling of volunteers for special events.
- Coordinate development and implementation of a volunteer relationship and retention program, including volunteer communications.
- Responsible for operating the Volunteer Program within current laws and compliance guidelines.
- Track visitor information, emails, and admission numbers.
- Assist with membership and fund-raising correspondence.
- Independently manage computer customer relationship software (Bloomerang).
- Help plan outreach events, tour groups, and educational opportunities.
- Assist with rentals and general office support when needed.
- Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
Compensation: $15.00 per hour; 15-20 hours per week; weekend work is required and some evening work is required for events.
Qualifications: Minimum of Associate degree in related field, or related experience of 1-3 years required. Strong computer background with experience or training in database management. Strong interpersonal skills required. Must be able to climb stairs. Weekend work is required.
