Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN

Overview

Outpatient Registered Nurse - RN at Fresenius Medical Care. Kokomo clinic. Typical shifts include 4:15am–6:00pm, Monday through Saturday (Sunday off). Rotating days/shifts; on-the-job training provided; dialysis experience not required to start.

• Performs essential functions under supervision and with guidance from Clinical Educator, Preceptor, or collaborating RN(s).
• Collects and analyzes patient data pre-, during, and post-hemodialysis; documents in the patient record; adjusts treatment plan as indicated; notifies appropriate leaders or physician as needed.
• Assesses learning needs of patients and families; provides initial and ongoing education.
• Directs and delivers safe and effective hemodialysis therapy in collaboration with the care team.
• Administers medications as prescribed or per approved algorithms; documents justification and effectiveness.
• Initiates or assists with emergency response measures.
• Serves as a resource to the health care team; participates in staff training and orientation of new staff.
• Ensures correct laboratory collection, processing, and shipping; reschedules missed or insufficient collections.
• Identifies expected outcomes; documents and updates nursing assessment and care plan in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
• Educates patients on transplant and treatment modality options as appropriate.
• Completes CAP requirements to advance as applicable.
• Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

• Direct patient care with potential heavy lifting and assistance with ambulation; equipment and coworkers provide support as needed.
• Frequent standing and bending; occasional movement of equipment up to 200 lbs with assistance; handling of up to 30 lbs chemicals and solutions up to 5 feet high.
• Healthcare facility environment with controlled temperature and moderate noise; exposure to infectious materials may occur.
• Desk and computer work; interaction with patients and staff; possible travel to training sites or other facilities.

• Oversee Patient Care Technicians/LPNs/LVNs/RNs as Team Leader or Nurse in Charge after meeting prerequisites: completion of Fresenius Kidney Care education/training; minimum 9 months RN experience; minimum 3 months chronic/acute hemodialysis RN experience.

• Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing; current state licensure; CPR/BLS certification; meet state practice requirements.

• Entry-level RN (less than 2 years) in nephrology nursing; chronic/acute hemodialysis experience preferred.
