The Diesel Mechanic will be primarily responsible for inspection, maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of motor vehicle equipment. The role typically involves oil changes, transmission/motor repairs, and other basic mechanic duties on cars, trucks, and semis. Candidates should be able to work with little direction, manage their time effectively, and occasionally travel within a three‑hour radius using the company vehicle. Own tools are required.
Responsibilitiesand Duties
- Maintain a variety of vehicles, including company fleet cars, trucks, heavy equipment, industrial vacuum trucks, industrial hydroblast pumps, tractor/trailers, and other motor vehicles.
- Perform routine and preventive maintenance such as oil changes and tune‑ups.
- Conduct tests on parts and systems to ensure proper function.
- Identify mechanical problems visually or with diagnostic equipment.
- Examine critical parts and systems using a standard checklist.
- Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
- Plan and schedule repairs and maintenance to meet deadlines.
- Visit job sites within a three‑hour radius for inspections.
- Test drive vehicles to confirm safe and proper operation.
- Submit purchase orders to ensure adequate parts inventory.
- Perform various other duties as required.
Education and Experience
- Two to five years of experience as a diesel mechanic.
- Experience with vacuum trucks or water blasters.
- Basic verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Basic organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Working understanding of safety principles, practices, and procedures.
- Excellent time‑management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Ability to function well in a high‑paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Problem‑solving ability and development of solutions.
- Follows directions of manager/lead/superintendent and clarifies responsibilities when needed.
- Respects self, co‑workers, managers, company, contractors, and clients.

- Lift, push, pull, and move up to 50 lbs. routinely.
- Climb ladders and stairways regularly during the shift.
- Observe conditions and others as a safety attendant, staying alert while seated for long periods.
- Use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment safely and controlled.
- Inspect site, tools, and equipment.
- Perform behavioral observations focusing on safety and process improvement.
- Follow safety protocol and report incidents or unsafe conditions immediately.

- Must provide proof of successful completion of OSHA 10‑hour certification within 60 days of starting.
