About the SchoolLocated in the picturesque hamlet of Kugluktuk, NU
, Kugluktuk High School serves the local community. The school has a population of approximately 245 students in a 7-12 setting with a staff of 31. The school and community are steeped in a rich history of Inuit culture.

Education & Certification
- Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree
- Valid teaching certificate recognized by, or eligible for certification in Nunavut
- International educated teachers who do not hold a Canadian teaching certificate are not required to meet every qualification; relevant experience and a commitment to community‑centred education are valued.
Language and Cultural Assets
- Ability to communicate in Inuktitut (verbal and written).
- Experience supporting Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit‑based education.
- Experience teaching in a bilingual or ESL environment.
- Experience teaching in cross‑cultural, or northern‑Canada contexts.
Teaching Practice & Classroom Environment
- Experience in differentiated instruction and inclusive practices.
- Training or experience in evidence‑based literacy development.
- Training or experience using current assessment methods to guide learning.
- Experience in creating a positive learning environment using classroom management practices and approaches (e.g. Restitution, Tribes, Positives Effective Behavior Supports).
Relationships & Student Engagement
- Experience in building respectful relationships with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders.
- Experience in fostering student wellbeing and engagement.
- Experience in engaging with students beyond the classroom, as appropriate.
Collaboration & Professional Practice
- Experience in planning instruction and student supports through collaborative approaches.
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a school team.
- Experience learning and contributing in a shared, community‑focused environment.
- Salary Range: $93,906 - $147,243 (based on experience)
- Subsidized Housing:
Available but sharing may be required.
- Applicants currently employed by the Government of Nunavut must hold a valid Nunavut teaching certificate.
- Applicants from outside Nunavut must provide a copy of a current public‑school teaching certificate from a Canadian jurisdiction recognized by the Nunavut Department of Education. Applications that do not include this documentation will not be considered.
- Successful candidates must provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) dated no more than six months prior to the start date.
- All job offers will be contingent upon proof of eligibility to work in Canada at time of offer.
- The Government of Nunavut is committed to creating a representative workforce; therefore, priority will be given to Nunavut Inuit who self‑identify as being enrolled under the Nunavut Agreement in accordance with the Priority Hiring Policy.
Successful candidates must have the following documents prepared so they can be provided upon receipt of a job offer:

- Proof of eligibility to work in Canada.
- Valid teaching certificate appropriate for Nunavut.
