Position SummaryAmerican International University (AIU) invites applications for a full-time Mathematics Foundation Program Instructor for the 2026–2027 academic year. This faculty position is situated within a coordinated, outcomes-driven Foundation Program that prepares students for entry into undergraduate study. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong, scholarly-informed teaching in developmental mathematics, a clear commitment to student progression, and the ability to operate effectively within a structured, multi-section academic environment.
The role requires disciplined course delivery, alignment with shared curricula and assessments, and the consistent use of evidence-based instructional practices. Faculty are expected to teach with purpose, monitor student learning closely, and ensure that students meet defined progression standards for entry into degree programs.
- Teaching and Instruction:
Deliver high-quality instruction across Foundation Program mathematics courses (e.g., pre-algebra, algebra, quantitative reasoning). - Teaching for conceptual understanding alongside procedural fluency.
- Plan and deliver structured lessons aligned with established course outcomes.
- Apply evidence-based and scholarly-informed teaching practices appropriate to developmental mathematics.
- Use active learning strategies, including questioning, concept checks, and guided practice.
- Adapt instruction to meet the needs of students with varied levels of mathematical preparation.
- Design and implement formative assessments to monitor student learning.
- Contribute to the development and delivery of common program-level assessments.
- Support comprehensive end-of-term assessments aligned with course outcomes.
- Evaluate student performance and ensure readiness for progression into degree programs.
- Maintain accurate, timely, and consistent records of student achievement.
- Adhere to common syllabi, pacing structures, and assessment frameworks across coordinated sections.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student engagement.
- Enforce program policies related to attendance and academic progress.
- Identify and intervene early with students at risk of non-progression.
- Provide office hours and targeted academic support.
- Utilize Canvas as the primary learning management system.
- Use Microsoft Teams to support communication and instructional continuity as required.
- Deliver instruction effectively in both in-person and remote formats.
- Fulfill all teaching-related responsibilities, including meetings and coordination activities.
- Work closely with course coordinators to ensure alignment of instruction and assessment across sections.
- Contribute to the ongoing development and refinement of curriculum and instructional materials.
- Use student performance data to inform instructional decisions and targeted interventions.
- Participate in program-level initiatives focused on improving student outcomes.
- Support institutional expectations related to documentation, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.
- Engage professionally within a collaborative, team-based academic environment.
Required
- Academic Credentials:
Master’s degree in Mathematics or a closely related field. - Teaching
Experience:
Proven experience teaching mathematics at the secondary or post-secondary level. - Instructional Practice:
Demonstrated ability to teach students with varied academic preparation, including those requiring foundational support. - Pedagogical Approach:
Familiarity with evidence-based or scholarly-informed approaches to teaching and learning. - Technology
Skills:
