- Teach core chemical concepts and principles including: atomic structure, bonding, stoichiometry, kinetics, equilibrium, acids and bases, electrochemistry, organic chemistry, thermodynamics, and analytical techniques.
- Introduce students to the scientific method, laboratory safety protocols, experimental design, data collection, error analysis, and the ethical dimensions of chemical research and industry applications.
- Develop students' ability to think systematically, solve quantitative problems, and construct evidence-based explanations using chemical terminology, equations, and models.
- Use a variety of instructional strategies (direct instruction, demonstration, guided inquiry, laboratory experiments, problem-solving sessions, peer teaching, flipped learning, digital simulations) to cater to different learning styles.
- Foster scientific curiosity, precision, resilience, and a commitment to safety, encouraging students to see experimentation and unexpected results as opportunities for deeper understanding.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with varying mathematical and scientific abilities, EAL learners, students with special educational needs, and high-achieving scientists.
- Assess, record, and report student progress regularly using formative assessments (lab reports, problem sets, quizzes, class participation, practical skills checklists) and summative assessments (mid-term exams, end-of-term examinations, practical assessments, research projects, written reflections).
- Prepare students for external Chemistry examinations where applicable, including exam technique, mathematical proficiency, practical endorsement components, coursework, and revision strategies.
- Manage a safe, well-organised, and fully stocked laboratory environment, including
- proper handling, storage, and inventory of chemicals, glassware, equipment, and hazardous materials in compliance with health and safety regulations.
- Organise and lead Chemistry enrichment activities such as Science Club, STEM competitions, laboratory open days, guest speaker sessions, field trips to universities or industry sites (where possible), and whole-school Science Week events.
- Uphold and actively promote safeguarding, child protection, and behaviour management policies at all times, including supervision during breaks, duties, and practical sessions.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress, practical competencies, examination performance, and opportunities for scientific enrichment.
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Education, or a closely related field (Master's degree or PhD preferred).
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE,
B.Ed., QTS, or equivalent). - Minimum 2–3 years of full-time Chemistry teaching experience in a secondary school setting (GCSE, A-Level, IB Chemistry, AP Chemistry, or equivalent), ideally in an international or multicultural school.
- Strong practical laboratory skills and thorough knowledge of laboratory safety protocols, chemical handling, and disposal procedures.
- Experience preparing students for external Chemistry examinations (exam board experience – e.g., AQA, Edexcel, OCR, IB, College Board – including practical endorsements, is an advantage).
- Familiarity with digital tools for Chemistry teaching (e.g., molecular modelling software, online simulation platforms such as PhET, data logging equipment, Google Classroom/LMS) is an advantage.
- Excellent classroom and laboratory management skills appropriate for secondary-age students (typically 11–18 years), including managing practical work safely and efficiently.
- Strong mathematical ability to support stoichiometric and quantitative aspects of Chemistry teaching.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to inspire analytical thinking, scientific integrity, and enthusiasm for the molecular sciences in students of all ability levels.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development, collaborative team planning, and evidence-based teaching practices.
- Cultural sensitivity, adaptability, and enthusiasm for contributing to school life beyond the classroom.
- Enhanced DBS check / police clearance certificate (or willingness to obtain one prior to employment).
