Perform preventive, corrective and breakdown maintenance of protection systems in EHV, HV, and LV substations. Maintain, test, calibrate and troubleshoot various protection relays and associated control circuits. Handle protection schemes including distance, differential, overcurrent, earth fault, busbar, transformer, feeder and motor protection systems. Conduct relay testing using secondary injection and relay test equipment. Analyze relay operation records and fault reports to identify system abnormalities and recommend corrective actions.
Test, maintain and troubleshoot battery chargers, DC systems, batteries and associated electronic circuits. Ensure proper operation of protection panels, annunciation systems, trip circuits and interlocking schemes. Assist in commissioning, modification and upgrading of protection systems and substation equipment. Prepare maintenance reports, relay settings records, testing documentation and technical reports. Ensure compliance with utility standards, safety procedures and maintenance schedules. Coordinate with operations and maintenance teams during shutdowns and emergency maintenance activities.
Support troubleshooting activities during system faults and power interruptions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering (Kuwait Bachelor's Degree Standard)
- Minimum 4 years of relevant experience in protection system maintenance
- Maximum Age: 40 years
- Preferred total experience: 8 years
- Strong knowledge of EHV, HV, and LV substation protection systems. Hands‑on experience with numerical and electromechanical relays.
- Familiarity with protection relay testing equipment such as Omicron, Megger, or equivalent.
- Ability to read and interpret protection drawings, schematics, and single‑line diagrams.
- Knowledge of battery chargers, DC supply systems, and electronic circuits.
- Good analytical, troubleshooting, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and technical reporting abilities.
- Experience with utility, transmission, distribution, or switch gear maintenance projects.
- Gulf/Kuwait substation maintenance experience an added advantage.
- Experience working on protection relays from manufacturers such as Siemens, ABB, Schneider Electric, and GE Grid Solutions.
