About the Role

Vision Reflect is seeking an experienced and technically driven Optical Engineering Manager to lead the development, optimization, and implementation of optical engineering solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing technical direction to optical engineering activities, overseeing design and testing processes, and ensuring that projects meet performance, quality, and delivery requirements. This role combines hands-on optical engineering expertise with team leadership, project coordination, and cross-functional collaboration.

The Optical Engineering Manager will work closely with engineering, product development, manufacturing, quality, and other technical teams to translate requirements into practical and reliable optical solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and supervise optical engineering activities from concept and design through testing, validation, and implementation.
  • Manage, mentor, and support optical engineers and technical team members.
  • Develop and review optical system designs, specifications, simulations, and technical documentation.
  • Oversee optical modeling, analysis, prototyping, testing, and performance evaluation.
  • Use optical design and simulation tools to evaluate and optimize system performance.
  • Establish engineering requirements, test procedures, acceptance criteria, and performance standards.
  • Review technical designs and provide solutions to complex optical engineering challenges.
  • Coordinate with mechanical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and quality teams on integrated projects.
  • Manage engineering schedules, resources, priorities, and project deliverables.
  • Identify technical risks and develop appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support prototype development, testing, troubleshooting, and product improvement.
  • Ensure engineering work complies with applicable quality, safety, and industry standards.
  • Communicate technical findings, project status, risks, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Maintain accurate engineering records, reports, specifications, and design documentation.
  • Promote continuous improvement, innovation, and technical excellence within the engineering team.
Qualifications
  • Required Bachelor’s degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Photonics, Optoelectronics, or a closely related engineering or scientific discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in optical engineering, optoelectronics, photonics, optical systems, or a related technical field.
  • At least 2 years of experience in a technical leadership, supervisory, project leadership, or engineering management capacity.
  • Strong understanding of optical engineering principles, including geometric and physical optics, imaging, light propagation, optical components, and optical system performance.
  • Practical experience with optical design, simulation, analysis, testing, or system characterization.
  • Familiarity with optical engineering software such as Zemax/Optic Studio, Code V, Light Tools, COMSOL, or comparable tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, test results, and engineering documentation.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage technical projects and coordinate multidisciplinary teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Ability to work independently while providing effective leadership and direction to an engineering team.
Preferred
  • Preferred Master’s degree in Optical Engineering, Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Experience with optical instrumentation, imaging systems, lasers, sensors, fiber optics, or optoelectronic systems.
  • Experience with optical laboratory equipment, measurement systems, calibration, and validation.
  • Knowledge of Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools for engineering analysis and data processing.
  • Experience with optical tolerance analysis, system optimization, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience taking optical products or systems from design through prototype, validation, and production.
  • Project management certification such as PMP is an advantage.
  • Experience leading cross-functional engineering teams is highly desirable.
