The PKI Certificate Authority Engineer must be certified at the expert level in multiple disciplines of systems and security, such as MCSE and CISSP. The engineer provides expert level engineering support for all Public Key Infrastructure services and supports Enterprise-class infrastructure in the RCC‑SWA by optimizing, administering, and documenting all Public Key Infrastructure systems.
Responsibilities include discovery, analysis, monitoring, and management of all digital certificates deployed by the Certificate Authority (CA), collaborating with system owners, and serving as the primary support entity for problem escalation. The engineer will manage the CA life cycle, troubleshoot certificate services and HSMs, aid in defining and developing a PKI strategic plan, create and maintain system documentation, improve processes through solutions to recurring problems, and perform other duties as assigned.

One-year related experience may be substituted for one-year of education if a degree is required. Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience preferably in Computer Science or MIS, IS, Engineering or related field. All candidates must adhere to DoD 8570.01M, maintain at least one baseline certification and one computing environment (CE) certification. Authorized baseline certifications include Cisco CCNP Security, CompTIA CASP+, GIAC GCED, GIAC GCIH, ISACA CISA, ISC2 CCSP, and ISC2 CISSP (or Associate).
Authorized CE certifications include Microsoft 365 Enterprise Administrator Expert, Azure Database Administrator Associate, Azure Security Engineer Associate, Azure Solutions Architect Expert, MCSA Cloud Platform, MCSA Windows Server 2012/2016, MCSE Cloud Platform and Infrastructure, MCSE Core Infrastructure, MCSE Data Management and Analytics, MCSE Productivity Solutions Expert, and MCSE Server Infrastructure 2012. - Experience

At least five (5) years of practical experience working with MS Active Directory Domain Services, MS AD CS, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI), Cryptography Standards, managing keystores (JKS, JCEKS, PKCS #12), Windows MSCS, hardware security modules (HSMs), key management services (KMS), Online Certificate Status Protocol (OCSP), and two‑factor authentication (RSA, Smart cards). Understanding of FIPS 140‑2 compliance and STIGs is required. Experience with a customer service‑oriented company is preferred. - Skills & Technology Used

Ability to troubleshoot servers and infrastructure equipment, assess networking requirements, provide solutions, and make accurate independent decisions under pressure. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. Ability to perform comfortably in a fast‑paced deadline‑oriented environment and to execute many complex tasks simultaneously. Expertise in MS AD CS, PKI, Cryptography Standards, JKS, JCEKS, PKCS #12, and Windows MSCS.
