Chemical Plant In-Charge
A Chemical Plant In-Charge, often referred to as a Plant Manager or Production Manager, is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a chemical manufacturing plant. Their role involves ensuring the plant runs efficiently safe and in compliance with all regulations while meeting production targets.
Key Responsibilities Operational ManagementSupervise and manage the day-to-day operations of the chemical plant ensuring smooth production processes Monitor production activities to ensure compliance with safety environmental and quality standards Optimize production efficiency and minimize downtime through effective scheduling and resource management
Staff SupervisionLead manage and train plant personnel including operators technicians and engineers Assign tasks and responsibilities to staff and monitor their performance Conduct regular performance reviews and support the development of team skills and capabilities
Safety and ComplianceEnsure the plant adheres to all safety protocols environmental regulations and industry standards Implement and enforce safety programs conduct risk assessments and address any unsafe practices Stay updated with local national and international regulatory changes and ensure plant operations comply with these laws
Maintenance and Equipment ManagementOversee the maintenance repair and calibration of plant machinery and equipment Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure timely and efficient upkeep of plant infrastructure to prevent breakdowns
Quality ControlEnsure that all products meet the required quality standards and specifications Implement quality control checks throughout the production process and work with the Quality Assurance team to resolve any quality issues
Inventory and Supply Chain ManagementMonitor the inventory of raw materials chemicals and finished products to ensure smooth operations Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials and supplies
Budgeting and Cost ControlManage the plant s budget ensuring that operations stay within financial targets Identify areas for cost reduction and implement strategies to improve operational cost efficiency
Reporting and DocumentationMaintain detailed reports of production schedules inventory levels and maintenance activities Prepare regular reports for upper management on plant performance safety audits production statistics and other key metrics
Continuous ImprovementIdentify and implement process improvements to increase plant efficiency and reduce costs Evaluate plant performance and implement best practices for enhanced productivity
Emergency ResponseManage emergency situations e g chemical spills accidents and coordinate the emergency response team Ensure that plant staff are properly trained in emergency protocols
Required Qualifications EducationBachelor s or Master s degree in Chemical Engineering Mechanical Engineering or a related field
ExperienceSeveral years of experience in a chemical plant or manufacturing environment with proven experience in plant management or supervision
SkillsStrong leadership organizational and problem-solving skills Proficient in plant operations safety regulations and quality control processes Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple tasks Good communication skills both verbal and written Knowledge of Lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement practices
Preferred QualificationsAdvanced certifications in Safety Management or Process Optimization Familiarity with process automation and control systems
Work EnvironmentThe position is typically based on-site at the plant May require irregular hours or on-call availability in case of emergencies or plant shutdowns .
