Responsibilities- Train new department team members.
- Establish security patrols and coordinate CCTV coverage during patrols.
- Complete schedules for security staff.
- Coordinate training for any employees participating in multi‑skilled training.
- Ensure the safety and security of guests, employees, and the establishment.
- Work to correct all hotel property deficiencies and safety or security hazards.
- Initiate action to improve hazardous situations immediately.
- Implement procedures for security and emergency incidents.
- Be thoroughly familiar with and guided by the hotel’s emergency plan in the event of a fire.
- Be familiar with the location and operation of fire alarms and firefighting equipment.
- Maintain the security system.
- Monitor staff clocking on and off duty.
- Allocate staff locker keys as necessary (optional for in‑house staff only).
- Conduct random checks of key registers in telephone room, banqueting, engineering, stewarding, and housekeeping to ensure the hotel’s key control policy is adhered to and report discrepancies.
- Maintain 24‑hour surveillance of areas frequented by guests and all work areas.
- Maintain vigilance on the closed‑circuit TV system and inform the security officer on patrol duties of any unusual happenings.
- Ensure checks are conducted on the fire panel, fire hose outlets, and fire barriers, and ensure all safety equipment is in good working order; correct any faulty equipment.
- Ensure the hotel alarm system is in good working order.
- Maintain a good working knowledge of:
- The hotel switchboard and paying system.
- The control points and the operation of the hotel’s gas and air conditioning system.
- The hotel’s fire indicator board, fire wardens’ telephones, and public address system.
- Maintain a daily log of incidents.
- Conduct regular locker checks in line with hotel policy.
- Check all packages and passes of employees entering and leaving the building.
- Carry out monthly fire inspections.
- Maintain knowledge of the liquor act and criminal code.
- Prevent gambling or sabotage of hotel premises.
- Ensure all outlets, fridges, cupboards, etc., are fully secured when not in use or unattended.
- Ensure no undesirables loiter in or around the hotel premises.
- Ensure there is no obstruction to the loading dock and that unauthorized vehicles are removed.
- Coordinate functions with other security staff and promote goodwill with them.
- Implement hotel policies and procedures and advise the Manager of Property Maintenance & Security of action taken.
- Handle disciplinary or criminal cases in a correct, secure, and courteous manner.
- Be alert for any unusual packages, guests, or vehicles and advise the superior.
- Be thoroughly familiar with the property layout, design, entry, and exit points.
- Make way by escorting VIPs and dignitaries when directed and direct traffic away from lobby and other busy thoroughfares.
- Ensure the safety control office is never left unattended.
- Provide escort duty for money transfers to the General Cashier’s office or bank as required.
