We are seeking a detail‑oriented and proactive Project Accountant to join our team. This role focuses on supporting various accounting and operational functions, including contract and time & material (T&M) billing, financial reporting, and expense tracking. The Project Accountant will collaborate closely with project managers and external stakeholders to ensure accurate financial tracking, optimize project profitability, and maintain compliance with accounting standards.
Responsibilities:
- Track and analyze project expenses, budgets, and financial performance against milestones.
- Prepare and submit client invoices based on milestones and contractual agreements.
- Set up and maintain contracts, T&M billings, and project‑related financial systems.
- Manage job maintenance tasks such as change orders and cost code additions.
- Collaborate with project managers and vendors to resolve financial issues and optimize outcomes.
- Request insurance certificates for specific jobs and assist with vendor portal setup.
- Provide support for annual state reporting and internal/external audits.
- Train and mentor project accounting interns as part of their development.
- Assist with compliance‑related filings, including DOT and unclaimed property reporting.
- Ability to travel 10‑20% of the time to various job sites.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- 1+ year of accounting experience, preferably in project accounting.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
- Proficiency in accounting software, Microsoft products, and financial tools.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Proven ability to identify financial issues, propose solutions, and implement corrective actions.
- Ability to thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities.
