Position SummaryUnder general supervision of the department chair, the person in this position is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. Teaching involves preparing for and holding classes (face‑to‑face, hybrid, and/or online), maintaining currency in the content area, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. Workload may also include advising students and providing other service to the department.
Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean. Under general supervision of the Microbiology Department chair, the instructor teaches introductory microbiology laboratory or lecture, pathogenic bacteriology lecture or laboratory, and/or Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) courses, evaluates students’ work, maintains records, and holds office hours.
M.S. or Ph.D. in microbiology or a closely related field [except in rare circumstances where post‑baccalaureate certification or licensure or a baccalaureate plus experience can be established as appropriate qualifications for the teaching position]. All persons hired for Academic Instruction will be required to submit official copies of their transcripts to Human Resources upon hire.
