the college of arts, social sciences, and humanities (cassh) includes departments and programs in the humanities, social sciences and interdisciplinary studies, as well as departments in the school of visual and performing arts (vpa). Cassh/vpa continues the established liberal studies tradition of providing curricula leading to the bachelor of arts or the bachelor of science degree.

position summary

under general supervision of the department chair, the pool lecturer is responsible for teaching undergraduate and/or graduate courses. In addition to preparing for and holding classes (face‑to‑face, hybrid, and/or online), the role includes maintaining currency in the content area related to the teaching assignment, evaluating students’ work, assessing student outcomes, maintaining appropriate records, and holding office hours. In addition, workload may involve advising students and/or providing other service to the department.

Other duties may be assigned by the chair or dean.

  • prepare and deliver curriculum to undergraduate (and/or graduate students).
  • prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts, ensuring they comply with department, college, and university guidelines including accessibility for students with disabilities.
  • evaluate and grade students’ class work, assignments, and papers utilizing the department’s grading criteria and system.
  • maintain regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assist students.
  • compile, administer, and grade examinations and other assessment measures.
  • initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
  • maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records, and deliver them to the registrar as directed by uwl policy.
required qualifications
  • advanced degree (ma, ms, jd, phd) in political science, public administration, or related field (except in rare circumstances).
  • college level teaching experience.
  • all persons hired for academic instruction will be required to submit all official copies of their transcripts to human resources upon hire.
preferred qualifications
  • college level teaching experience in political science or public administration.
  • work experience in a field related to political science or public administration.
  • ability to mentor college‑level students in academic and professional goals.
