The Supervisor, Engineering in Generation is responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and administration of plant performance monitoring and testing programs, providing technical and administrative leadership for major maintenance projects and plant engineering services across the system. Manage the safe execution and continuous improvement of Dairyland Power Cooperative’s Quality Assurance (QA) programs. Ensure QA and performance engineering programs are carried out to the highest standards of quality and safety in the engineering, construction, and maintenance of generation and transmission facilities.

Impact You'll Make In This Role ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  • Coordinate initiatives to enhance the economical and reliable performance of power production equipment and systems. Develop and implement programs focused on improving plant performance, with an emphasis on heat rate training, awareness, and maximizing generating station reliability and availability.
  • Manage activities related to the creation and upkeep of a plant performance database. Ensure the accuracy and completeness of data used for internal reporting and submissions to external agencies (e.g., GADS, DOE).
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of analytical software programs to track, evaluate, and report on plant performance, transmission equipment, and equipment maintenance or design issues.
  • Oversee the planning, development, and execution of engineered capital projects and specialized maintenance initiatives aimed at improving plant and transmission equipment reliability. Supervise in‑house staff, external consultants, and suppliers as needed. Conduct engineering studies, prepare cost estimates, and prepare department budget planning.
  • Develop and manage predictive maintenance programs leveraging techniques such as vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, and more. Provide expertise in established programs related to welding, R‑stamp certification, non‑destructive evaluation (NDE), and boiler tube failure (BTF) prevention.
  • Ensure the department delivers technical support and guidance to power plant and transmission operations teams regarding quality assurance activities and program effectiveness.
  • Responsible for the development and execution of routine inspections, specialized audits, and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to established programs, standards, and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or Physical Sciences is required, preferably in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline. A minimum of seven (7) years of experience in power plant operations, transmission or substation engineering, utility maintenance, or performance‑related activities is essential. Demonstrated leadership experience or the ability to effectively demonstrate leadership capabilities in team settings, project management, or other relevant roles.

Professional Engineering (PE) license is preferred.

  • Proven expertise in managing multiple priorities and complex projects while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.
  • Robust leadership skills with the ability to manage organizational change, resolve conflicts, make informed decisions, mentor team members, and efficiently oversee resources.
  • Thorough understanding of safe power plant operations or safe transmission line and substation field construction practices and techniques.
