Position Summary
This is a project development unit supervisor position in the Southwest Region working under the general supervision of the DOT Engineering Chief with the primary focus of the Interstate and 51 North Project. This position performs administrative and supervisory functions in the field of engineering and is responsible for the supervision of professional and technical staff that provide support for engineering related functions.
This position's primary role is to achieve program objectives by interpreting and applying policy within its programmatic area and directly supervising a staff of professional engineering and technical positions. This includes coordinating staff and resources to meet program objectives; providing training and developmental opportunities to staff; applying technical expertise in decision-making; developing and implementing policy; performing professional engineering work; applying professional engineering expertise in decision-making;
and prioritizing, assigning, and monitoring work to meet project requirements and deadlines. Additionally, this position requires effective communication with internal and external partners, other agencies, consultants, and contractors.
This position requires extensive professional experience in civil engineering and a comprehensive understanding of technical manuals, specifications, and policies. This position reviews, analyzes, and approves engineering reports, documents, and plans. The professional engineering analysis, review, and decisions made by this position directly relates to the safety and operation of the transportation system, thus has a high level of risk and accountability.
Salary Information
This position is in schedule-range (81-30) with an annual salary of $115,690 - $122,034, plus excellent benefits. A twelve month probationary period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualifications
Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:
* A valid Professional Engineering registration and be able to obtain a Wisconsin PE registration within 3 months if the PE registration is from another state.
* Experience in transportation program or project management.
* Examples may include:
Oversight of transportation projects or programs in design/construction (interpretation of Facilities Development Manual, Highway Maintenance Manual, Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices or similar) including delivery of plans, specifications, and estimates (PSE). Managing project or program progress tracking/reporting. Negotiation and/or administering consultant contracts. Developing and tracking project or program budgets etc.
