Overview

The City of La Crosse Police & Fire Commission seeks Police Officers to join a diverse workforce that reflects the community. The role includes enforcing laws, maintaining public peace, protecting life and property, and working with the community.

Responsibilities
  • Work as a team member to enforce laws and maintain public peace.
  • Protect life and property.
  • Work with the community to address community problems.
  • Patrol on a 12‑hour schedule (2/2‑3/2‑2/3 cycle), totaling 2080 hours per year with every other weekend off.
Qualifications
  • Minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited university (transcripts required).
  • Valid unrestricted driver’s license.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
  • Medical/vision standards met; background check, physical exam, drug screen, and psychological exam required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, maturity in independent decision making, and respect for the community.
  • Not required to be certified; non‑certified candidates may attend the 720 Academy.
