Position: Counselor (L) Underserved Populations Coordinator
The Counselor, Underserved Populations Coordinator will function as a strong generalist conducting mental health assessments (intakes), urgent care (crisis) assessments, triage assessments and professional counseling services (including individual, couples, group) especially but not exclusively to students from populations who are less likely to access counseling services (underserved populations). Other responsibilities include referral, consultation, in-service training, and outreach, as well as crisis intervention services and public relations services to campus and community members as appropriate.
The Counselor, Underserved Populations Coordinator is under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of the Counseling & Testing Center (CTC) with a secondary supervisory relationship with the Vice Chancellor for Access, Belonging & Compliance (AB&C). Other responsibilities include developing and fostering relationships with departments that serve underserved populations, as well as belonging focused student organizations and groups; developing procedures with AB&C campus partners to better respond to student mental health needs;

providing consultation, outreach, and training to AB&C offices/staff. This position will have a primary office within CTC and a secondary location within a partnered AB&C office. The Counselor will also participate in staff, student affairs, and university committees. Similar to all staff at the CTC, the successful candidate will work to make UWL a welcoming and inclusive environment for all students, and they will do so in compliance with ethical, legal, and accreditation guidelines.
This position is full-time between August and May, and part-time (0.5 FTE or 20 hours per week) in June and July, with primarily counseling treatment services being provided in summers.
* Contribute to CTC training/clinical staff seminars as presenter and consultant.
* Participate in campus staff development training sessions.
* Maintain and improve clinical competence through ongoing professional development activities and education.
* Attend local, state, regional and national professional conferences and participate in continuing education workshops.
* Maintain memberships in professional organizations.
* Maintain appropriate licensure to practice in accordance with state statutes.
* Perform other duties and projects assigned by the assistant director.
* Share responsibility for creating and maintaining an inclusive environment for all university students, faculty, staff, and visitors.
* Share responsibility for creating a work environment that emphasizes integrity, respect, direct communication, and support among colleagues and staff.
* Communicate with the director and assistant director regarding absences, program ideas, concerns, projects, etc.
* Develop and maintain campus relationships, especially with those departments and offices that serve underserved student populations.
* Collaborate with the CTC Assistant Director and staff to identify and implement strategies and/or programs to improve access for underserved students.
* Partner with the CTC Outreach Coordinator and campus constituents to aide in the coordination and participation of outreach functions (including preventions/education programs and services), specifically as they relate to awareness and education of underserved populations.
* Coordinate and participate in in-service training for CTC staff and the campus community.
* Develop and maintain community relationships within the treatment communities that focus on serving underserved populations.
* Engage in and conduct applied research, needs assessment and evaluation of counseling and outreach services as they relate to underserved populations.
* Perform other duties and projects assigned by the CTC Assistant Director and Vice Chancellor for AB&C.
* Independently licensed in Wisconsin as a Psychologist, LPC, LCSW, or LMFT, or independently licensed in another state and eligible to apply for a WI license by reciprocity immediately upon hire.
* Experience with treating diagnostically and/or culturally diverse client populations.

- Five (5) or more years of experience as a licensed mental health professional (if licensed as LPC) or possesses the equivalent necessary to provide clinical supervision toward state licensure for counselors in training.
* Doctoral degree (PhD or PsyD) from an APA-accredited psychology program and licensed as a psychologist.
* Experience providing mental health treatment on a college campus and/or experience working in higher education with culturally and diagnostically diverse college students.
* Experience conducting brief therapy with emerging adults for a wide range of presenting concerns.
* Experience providing clinical supervision to trainees in a counseling setting.
* Experience conducting outreach programming, presentations, training, and/or workshops relevant to college students from underserved populations.
