The Salvation Army of La Crosse Emergency Shelter provides a safe shelter for families and individuals experiencing homelessness. Every year, hundreds of men, women, and children are provided emergency shelter and fed over 80,000 meals. Community support makes all this possible. Donations of supplies, dollars, and volunteer staffing help ensure the emergency shelter continues serving those in the biggest need.

The Cook will prepare and serve meals for shelter residents and clients of the meal program. Manage the meal program in the absence of the Food Services Manager.

• Plan, prepare, and serve meals in conjunction with Food Services Manager
• Maintain a sanitary work environment
• Monitor donations and other food and non-food inventory
• Create and maintain a comfortable and respectful environment for clients
• Clean and properly arrange the freezer, cooler, and pantry on a weekly basis
• Under the direction of the Food Services Manager, oversee daily food pantry, including maintaining current computer records of clients/activity, recording and reporting accurate monthly statistics, assisting volunteers with clients and pantry needs
• Provide seasonal support as requested
• Be available to work nights and weekends
• Other duties as assigned by the Corps Officers

• High School diploma or equivalent
• Computer literate and knowledgeable of MS Office

• Must have completed the Restaurant Serv Safe Certification program or will complete within six (6) months of hire
• Must have a valid driver's license and pass MVR requirements for Salvation Army insurance

• One year food service experience
