Job Summary

Parking Services at the University of Wisconsin–La Crosse seeks a Parking Enforcement Officer to patrol parking lots and ramps, enforce parking regulations, issue citations, and provide customer service to students, faculty, staff, and visitors. The officer will utilize LPR‑equipped vehicles and support parking operations through maintenance, record‑keeping, and training of student employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Patrol assigned parking areas in a License Plate Recognition (LPR) equipped vehicle and issue citations to vehicles in violation of UWL parking rules and regulations.
  • Respond to parking problems, set up barricades, cones and temporary signs, and maintain an orderly flow of vehicle and pedestrian traffic.
  • Educate students, faculty, staff, and visitors on parking rules and regulations.
  • Inspect parking lots/ramps and report maintenance issues, perform regular upkeep on parking equipment, and dispose of trash.
  • Maintain accurate records, complete daily logs and participate in parking appeal meetings or court hearings as required.
  • Assist with front‑office tasks (customer interaction, answering phones, processing payments, opening/closing the office) as needed.
  • Provide input to improve Parking Services operations and assist with special event parking support.
  • Report problems, disturbances, suspicious persons, or activities to police.
  • Train student employees on field operations and equipment usage.
  • Adhere to all state laws, university and departmental rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Participate in and complete all required training.
Physical and Work‑Condition Demands
  • Patrol up to eight hours each day involving driving, walking, and standing for long periods.
  • Lifting up to 50 pounds (moving barricades, signs, etc.).
  • Exposure to all weather conditions (ice, sleet, rain, fog, snow, etc.).
  • May be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and cover special events.
Required Qualifications
  • Minimum high school diploma.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent computer/technology skills and ability to use LPR technology.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Good judgment and ability to make appropriate, quick decisions.
  • Valid driver’s license and authorization to drive a UWL vehicle.
  • Criminal background check required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of parking technology (T2, Patroller, Security Center).
  • Experience directing traffic and providing directions.
  • Knowledge of parking lot maintenance and repairs (signs, paint, asphalt, concrete, pressure washing, meter operation).
Compensation

$18.00 per hour.
