** Electrician B or Ind Apprentice Electrician B - La Crosse, WI*
* * Hiring wage $36.43-$50.48 (must be located or reside within a 25 air mile radius of work location)
* The Electrician B will be responsible to safely perform testing activities, diagnostics, repair, maintain and construct substations, capacitor stations, motor operated switches, and transmission systems.

1.
Comply with all established safety rules, company policies, and procedures.
2.
Responsible to the supervisor of electrical maintenance, for the inspection, repair, maintenance, and approved modification of electrical equipment within a substation, capacitor station, motor operated switches or on the transmission system.
3.
Complete equipment records and documentation related to tests, maintenance, modifications, and repairs to equipment and facilities.
4.
Responsible for following the test, maintenance, and installation procedures established as acceptable for the equipment under the care of this department. May assist in the development of electrical maintenance procedures or the checkout of electrical systems where established procedures are inadequate and non-existent.
5.
Recommend improvements and modifications of the electrical equipment to the supervisor, electrical maintenance.
6.
Attend training programs as directed by the supervisor, which may require travel. Assist in providing training to other electrical maintenance staff, operations staff and to other Cooperative staff, as directed by supervisor.
7.
Perform system switching as needed.
8.
Assist in maintaining an adequate and orderly electrical spare parts and equipment inventory.
9.
Assist in maintaining electrical test and safety equipment in proper operating order.
10.
Assist in maintaining a safe, clean, orderly, and hazard-free work areas.
11.
Maintain a general working knowledge of substations, capacitor stations, motor operated switches, transmission systems, and associated operating procedures.
12.
Other duties historically performed by this classification and other related or comparable duties as assigned.

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

* Education & Experience:
(Internal Candidates) – Must have completed a state-approved Substation apprenticeship program or possess comparable education and work experience; (External Candidates) – Associate degree in Electrical, Industrial Electronics or a directly related electric utility field required plus three years related experience or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.
Skills:
Safe working knowledge of utility systems (substation, generation, and transmission), electric systems, electrical clearances for the voltages encountered, circuits, one-line diagrams, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams, electric test instruments, interpretation of maintenance/test results and communication systems. Operate high voltage disconnect switches inside substations and on the transmission and distribution system. Ability to read and comprehend technical manuals and associated drawings or diagrams.
Mathematical aptitude and good verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with the use of personal computers and other electronic devices is necessary.
Licenses and
Certifications:
Valid driver’s license. DOT qualified (or become qualified within 45 days). Must be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License with a tanker endorsement within 6 months of being hired. Must acquire and retain a mobile crane certification with an articulated boom crane.
Physical Demands: Works outdoors with heavy physical endurance, often in inclement weather conditions. Occasionally work at heights of 25 feet or more. Must be able to work in a variety of physically awkward positions. Frequently lifts materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds and occasionally lifts items that weigh 100 pounds. Required to push and pull wire, climb hand-over-hand, and reach overhead to install equipment.
Will stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, squat, twist upper body, bend, and lie prone as one works on various types of installations. Will stand upright for prolonged periods of time (8 hours) in installation work. Must be able to walk carrying tools and equipment. Must be able to distinguish colors. Must be able to operate hand tools, power tools, a variety of motor vehicles and assigned equipment.
