Experience /

Qualifications:

Associate degree in Human Services or major course work in Human Services or related field is desirable; employment experience in a setting working with persons with significant disabilities may be substituted for all or part of the education requirement; knowledge of the limitations imposed by various disabilities, assessment, and training techniques. Must utilize community services and promote vocational rehabilitation programs; ability to use a computer (including database, Word, and Excel).

Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.

Position Summary:

Performs varied vocational paraprofessional duties such as training, accommodating disability, assessing, developing and presenting pre-vocational programs, and documenting progress. Assists Vocational Services Director in communication with internal staff and outside entities regarding needs and progress of employees with disabilities. Assists with production, material handling, and quality control in the Light Assembly and other departments, including Arcadia and off-site work enclaves. Compiles information needed for documents such as ISPs, DHS Reports, and IEEs.

Writes case notes to document progress and problems of pre-vocational employees. Responsible for personal cares such as eating, toileting, and transportation. Assists with pre-vocational and Ability One file management.

Essential Functions:
  • Ongoing supervision of workers assigned to pre-vocational programs;
  • Training, documentation, and ongoing assessment of pre-vocational employees;
  • Shares information on a need-to-know basis with production staff to facilitate success of pre-vocational employees assigned to any department;
  • Assists employees with disabilities with accessing their mode of transportation;
  • Assures that pre-vocational employees receive the degree of assistance needed with personal cares while helping them increase independence in these areas;
  • Under the direction of the Vocational Services Director, interfaces with parents, guardians, and residential staff to transmit and receive information pertinent to coordination of services;
  • Serves as substitute/fill-in job coach at community enclave sites, ORC-Arcadia, and Light Assembly Department;
  • Exercises judgment/discretion on a normal and recurring basis in the day-to-day performance of duties; maintains integrity, confidentiality of data and client/employee confidentiality requirements;
  • Creates and presents pre-vocational classroom programs for use in low-work situations or as required by the employees' service program;
  • Safely transports and assures safety for community activities as directed by the Vocational Services Director;
  • Must be able to adhere and follow all safety procedures and use appropriate PPE as required;
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
