This role has undergone a transformation from a transaction-based environment to a patient‑centric one. As a Walgreens Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician Apprentice, you will interact with customers and develop strong patient relationships.
Base Pay Range$16.50/hr – $20.00/hr (actual pay is determined by skills and experience)
Training ProgramWalgreens offers an "earn while you learn" Pharmacy Technician Training Program recognized by ASHP & the Department of Labor. The apprenticeship guide you toward PTCB certification and helps you maintain the high skill level required in pharmacy care.
Responsibilities- Assist the pharmacist under direct supervision in the practice of pharmacy.
- Use pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information, process prescriptions, and maintain accurate records.
- If PTCB certified, assist and coach pharmacy technicians in operating pharmacy systems and cash registers.
- Deliver a distinctive and delightful customer experience, greeting patients, resolving issues, and ensuring positive interactions.
- Perform inventory management tasks: ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceuticals; filing claims for overages, shortages, and errors.
- Assist with clinical services, including collection and labeling of blood/urine samples.
- Maintain compliance with company policies, the pharmacy code of conduct, and Good Faith Dispensing policies.
- Handle telephone calls, process manual claims, and perform clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, stocked, and orderly pharmacy department and support local medical community relationships.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Engage customers and patients by greeting them and offering assistance with products and services.
- Resolve customer issues and answer questions to ensure a positive customer experience.
- Model customer service best practices with all team members.
- Develop strong relationships with most valuable customers.
- Assist in pharmacy practice under the supervision of the pharmacist in accordance with state, federal, and company policy.
- Enter patient and drug information, fill prescriptions, verify medicine, and check for interactions; schedule and maintain workflow.
- Report prescription errors immediately to the pharmacist and follow policies on pharmacy errors and the quality improvement program.
- Strictly adhere to Good Faith Dispensing policy during all applicable prescription dispensing activities.
- Register all related sales, handle cash, and guide customers to the OTC aisle when possible.
- Handle non‑pharmacist telephone calls, including those to physicians.
- Process manual claims for third‑party prescription services and perform other clerical duties as assigned.
- Assist inventory management: ordering, unpacking, checking, and storing pharmaceutical shipments; file claims for overages, shortages, and damaged goods.
- Assist pharmacist with clinical services and coordinate clinics and external providers.
- Develop relationships with local medical community members through outreach and detailing.
- Assist with interior and exterior maintenance to ensure the pharmacy is stocked, clean, and orderly.
- Comply with all company policies and maintain respectful relationships with coworkers.
- Complete special assignments and other tasks as assigned.
- Earn and maintain PTCB certification through the designated program and/or state‑required certification/registration.
- Attend manager‑requested training and acquire continuing education credits.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy, including the latest news and developments.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking English. (Except in Puerto Rico)
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends.
- Prefer six months of experience in a retail environment.
- Prefer prior work experience with Walgreens.
- Prefer good math skills for accurate prescription filling.
- Prefer good computer skills.
- Prefer knowledge of store inventory control.
- Prefer PTCB certification.
