PositionSummary
The Network Engineer III is a mid‑level network engineer with a strong emphasis on IP Routing who works closely with CENIC Associates and Senior Engineers to deploy and upgrade connectivity to customers and the CENIC core network and respond to escalation needs for the same. - Partner closely with CENIC Associates to design and implement new customer connections into CalREN according to the CENIC service catalog to fit customer needs
- In collaboration with Senior Engineers, deploy and upgrade new services, hardware, and protocols to CENIC's core network, using technologies such as IS‑IS Segment Routing & MPLS VPNs, BGP, and Flex Spectrum DWDM & DCI services up to 400
Gbps+ - Assist Senior Engineers in the development of proposals for new network designs, services, policies, and procedures.
- Function as an escalation point for CENIC's Network Operations Center and Network Engineer I for outages, troubleshooting, and customer network issues.
- Maintain customer relations by functioning as an advisor to CENIC customer segments for future deployment needs and diversity & capacity planning.
- Create and update network documentation to ensure a maintainable, streamlined, and efficient CENIC network.
- Participation in updating and revising policies, procedures, technical reports, documentation, and internal training material as needed
- Adherence to project planning and documentation requirements as required by deployment needs
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Well organized and able to track and manage multiple simultaneous internal and external requests
- Strong commitment to customer service and a team‑first mindset
- Ability to work independently and within a team environment to implement member needs
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline with 6+ years of experience, or a combination of education and experience.
- 5 years of experience with network design, configuration, operations, and troubleshooting at a CCNP/JNCIP level
- Strong background with BGP, OSPF, or IS‑IS, and IP Routing
- Experience with some of the technologies, such as IPVPNs and L2
VPNs (EVPN or similar), MPLS (Segment Routing, LDP, RSVP‑TE), QinQ, VRRP/HSRP, and traffic engineering basics
- Hands‑on installation and operations for diverse telecommunications and LAN/WAN network infrastructure
- Experience with DWDM optical line systems and DCI deployments
- Familiarity with network automation tools such as Ansible, NSO, Git, etc, and automation processes
- Python or a similar programming language basics
This position operates in a professional office environment with standard office equipment, including computers, telephones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets.
Work HoursThe regular workweek is Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend work may be required based on CENIC’s business demands.
