Overview

Position:
Part-time temporary adjunct faculty in Massage Therapy. Located 45 minutes from the Nation's Capital in a history-rich southern Maryland community. This is an applicant pool for part-time temporary faculty for academic credit courses in the Division of Health Sciences, in the Massage Therapy discipline for multiple campuses. CSM seeks dynamic individuals who can implement the mission of a community college by assessing, documenting, and improving student learning through instruction.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

The Health Science Division has openings for part-time adjunct faculty teaching the topics of massage therapy theory and skills (MAS 1015, 1020, 2030), clinical supervision for clinics (MAS 1016, 1021, 2031), massage in a medical setting (MAS 2050), client assessment and health care communication (MAS 2035), and Anatomy of Movement, palpation and kinesiology (MAS 2000) for the Massage Therapy Program in the Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters.

Courses meet one or two times per week, day or evening.

Minimum requirements for teaching functions and responsibilities:

  • Plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends at the College of Southern Maryland campus, center, or clinical location to which assigned.
  • Ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled; communicate absences and schedule changes to the Course or Program Coordinator.
  • Maintain a high level of expertise in the subjects taught and stimulate enthusiasm for those subjects.
  • Plan each unit or lesson with content and method to make each class meaningful.
  • Ensure that each program/class contains essential curricular components, has appropriate content and pedagogy, and remains current.
  • Teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus and for the required duration.
  • Study and utilize students' learning styles to facilitate effective teaching and learning.
  • Incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery as appropriate.
  • Maximize learning opportunities for each student.
  • Keep students informed about course content, requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements.
  • Provide prompt feedback and grading, and inform students about their progress.
  • Demonstrate genuine concern for each student through individual conferences as needed.
  • Administrative Functions: file appropriate course syllabi, ensure each course section is web-enhanced, utilize college online resources, and communicate professionally via the college email system with a 48-72 hour response time.
  • Keep the Course or Program Coordinator informed of any student concerns or conduct violations within 48 hours.
  • Maintain accurate scholastic records, including attendance, conduct class evaluations, and submit academic reports in a timely manner.
  • Attend all faculty meetings, college assemblies, and professional development activities as required.
  • Become familiar with and comply with college policies and the Faculty Handbook; convey college-related information to students in a timely manner.
  • Program Improvement: participate in program and curriculum review and student learning outcomes assessment initiatives; recommend textbooks and materials; contribute to curriculum improvement aligned with college objectives.
  • Professional Development: stay informed of current trends and new instructional approaches via professional development activities and submit continuing education records.
Minimum Education and Training
  • 500-600 hour Certificate in Massage Therapy, AAS preferred
  • Licensed Massage Therapist in Maryland
  • Associate Degree required, Bachelor Degree preferred
Minimum Qualifications and Standards Required
  • Enthusiasm and passion for student learning; ability to address the needs of adult learners using diverse teaching methods including new technologies.
  • Minimum 3 years practice as LMT
