Role Overview:

The Bridge Inspection Supervisor plays a critical role in maintaining public safety and safeguarding Indiana’s infrastructure investments. This position ensures compliance with the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) by leading a team of bridge inspectors in the assessment and maintenance of bridges and large culverts. This includes overseeing biennial inspections, evaluating structural integrity, and addressing safety concerns through actionable reporting and coordination.

, the Bridge Inspection Supervisor is responsible for managing inspection operations, ensuring quality control, and providing mentorship and training for their team. This role demands a combination of technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a commitment to public service.

This position traditionally starts at an annual salary of $75,010.00. Salary for this position may be commensurate with education and job experience.

This position is located in INDOT’sLa Porte District , Bridge Inspection Department.

A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

  • Manages the Bridge Inspection Team for the department’s ongoing operations; continually develops and implements improvements to the team’s work processes
  • Performs inspections of large culverts (small structures 4’ to 20’ in span)
  • Reviews & Approves some bridge inspection reports
  • Determines specialized bridge inspection needs
  • Quality Control Officer – performs some QC office & field reviews
  • Stays on-call to perform emergency damage inspections, i.e. collision, high water
  • Performs fracture critical & in-depth inspections using access equipment
  • Performs special inspections for bridges with concerns;
  • Performs post-construction inspections for bridges
  • Prepares & submits reports for completed inspections
  • Reports deficiencies to bridge maintenance crew for corrective action
  • Submits bridges recommended to be programmed, including mini-scope & cost estimate
  • Determines work needed to repair damaged bridges & coordinates the repairs
  • Monitors the project schedules of all bridges of concern monthly
