Base pay range$65,000.00/yr - $70,000.00/yr
Emerge is recruiting qualified candidates for a direct hire Payroll Specialist job in La Porte on behalf of our client, a growing manufacturer of quality products. In this on-site role, you'll own the end-to-end payroll processing and be a key member of a collaborative HR team. We are seeking candidates with three or more years of experience processing payroll and working within employment laws and regulations.
HRIS experience is a plus! Our client offers a base pay rate of $60,000-$70,000 per year plus excellent benefits starting on day one, growth opportunities, and a chance to make a real difference through accuracy, service, and process improvements.
- Process weekly, bi-weekly, and monthly payroll with precision; ensure timeliness, accuracy, and compliance
- Reconcile payroll data, verify payroll outputs against reports/registers, and maintain meticulous documentation
- Generate key reports (headcount, hours worked, absenteeism, HR metrics) for HR, EHS, Finance, and site leadership
- Administer Time & Attendance systems: setup, vendor coordination, user support, troubleshooting
- Train users on T&A best practices; oversee time collection, coding corrections, LOA tracking, and overtime monitoring
- Serve as the primary contact for payroll inquiries; resolve tickets and provide responsive, professional support
- Assist with orientation and onboarding, including payroll setup for new hires
- Administer HRIS transactions throughout the employee lifecycle (hires, terms, status changes)
- Maintain I‑9s and personnel files; ensure record retention and policy compliance
- Ensure adherence to employment laws and regulations (ERISA, FMLA, FLSA, ADA, OSHA, COBRA)
- Support recognition programs (service awards and other pay‑related recognition)
- Contribute to HR and plant improvement projects and required reporting
- Coordinate daily/weekly/monthly HR reporting; provide backup support across the HR team
- High school diploma or GED required;
Associate degree in finance or accounting preferred - 3+ years of payroll specialist or closely related HR payroll experience
- Proficiency in MS Office with strong Excel skills required
- Strong attention to detail with solid analytical and problem‑solving ability
- Clear, professional communicator with a customer‑service mindset; handles sensitive information with strict confidentiality
- Collaborative and independent work style; results‑driven, organized, and comfortable leading projects; sound business acumen
- Able to influence and coach effectively; committed to inclusivity and treats safety as a way of life
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship is not available
